    So Bad
    No More Lonely Nights
    Goodnight Tonight
    Maybe I’m Amazed
    Every Night
Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five (or anything off Band On the Run really, as it’s my favourite solo Beatles album)

but if it has to be one, it’s So Bad. It’s so good, Smokey Robinson chose to cover it, and there’s no higher praise than that.

Let Me Roll It is probably McCartney’s most Lennon-like song

For me this thread highlights just what a bang average solo career he’s had. I know it draws ire from people, but IMO if this was his only career and he’d never been in The Beatles, I reckon he would be viewed very differently.

The drop in standard, particularly immediately post Beatles, is staggering.

Immediately? Nah! The McCartney album and Ram are great. And then 3 years post-Beatles he made Band On The Run, which is one of the greatest albums of all-time. That’s one classic album more than most artists have managed.

He’s written and released great songs throughout his career. His Flaming Pie album from the mid-90s is excellent, for example. I’d say his solo output is comparable to Rod Stewart, in terms of quality of albums and the amount of great songs, and Rod’s done alright.

Just my opinion, but McCartney works better when he has a foil to work with - with Lennon in the Beatles, with the band in Wings, and with guest musicians as collaborations - like Veronica with Elvis Costello (which is a fantastic song).

By himself, the quality filter isn't quite as good.

Middlein to crap, but nothing specifically to moan about, other than all the usual stuff that everyone has to endure. Thank you for asking. How are you?

Thought I may have seen you at The Black Lamps gig at The Civic. It was really good.

The last couple of gigs I've seen my friends play have been at Wentworth Festival and The Civic, after watching them in some right bloody 'oles for the preceeding 35 years. I think they should all retire on a high because it ain't getting better than that.

During the Kim Wilde set at Wentworth I broke up a fight to the death between two women, there was blood everywhere (not from my doing). Half a dozen people got lifted over the front barrier leaving me front and centre and Kim blew me a kiss. Admittedly, she's not quite the same Kim Wilde who I fell in love with when I first saw her in that black and white stripey top singing Kids in America, but neither am I. And she did sing Kids in America.

Re: the fight : brave man!
Re: Kim Wilde : Lucky man! With a capital L!!!
Re: Black Lamps : Couldn’t go that night. Thought Wentworth was a disappointment this year on main stage, Rosadocs and Kim apart. She wasn’t on long but she was ace. More than enough quality in the new music tent though. A tarn higher echelon fest, quality all day in there.
Not doing bad, cheers - bit down lately to be honest, got some hearing loss in my left ear after far too many infections in it.On the plus side it’ll help drown out Blue next June at the newly named Wentfest.
