Ticks a hell of a lot of boxes.. knows the club gets the town and fans.. because he is one. Experience in every division ether coaching or playing, even coaching the young un's Won't get anyone to work any harder.. Just throwing it out there..
Makes no sense at all. Every time our manager has a bad run there would be talk of him replacing him. Also if Hecky gets the sack he’ll more than likely get paid up for the remainder of his contract until / unless he gets another job. I can’t see anyway in which we’d offer a salary that makes it worthwhile him giving up the remainder of his Sheff Utd contract.
For a so called skint club to be spending additional cash on a DOF that could go towards the playing side, doesn't seem the correct decision.
I'd imagine that its Khaleds replacement with a different title. The whole CEO title will be incorporated by one of the other board members I would imagine.
He left us because we put money over football and he's about to be sacked at Sheff Utd for same reason. Why would he come back here under worse constraints than he worked under before in his previous tenure?
His imminent sacking from Sheff United isn’t unexpected but he’s been dealt a pretty rough hand. I can’t remember any other side being promoted to the premier league and going into the season weaker than the previous season. Two of his best players gone from the squad - and not a lot coming in. He has been on a hiding to nothing really. Not helped by a brain dead centre forward getting two bookings for the same thing less than ten minutes apart on Saturday - though that game was probably lost at 2-0 anyway, I can’t imagine they’d have shipped 5.
True. Of all the players at Sheff Utd McBurnie should owe a debt of gratitude to Hecky more than anyone with how he helped revive his career. It was pathetic what he did.
I must admit, it was amusing hearing Shearer criticising McBurnie for flailing elbows on Saturday's MOTD. In today's game, Shearer would've played 20 mins a match before he was shown a red!
Doug posted recently that it's expected to be a role that sits alongside the CEO (final paragraph in link) https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/26673/reds-counting-the-cost-of-fa-cup-removal
Running a football club is a hugely complex thing in this day and age. Makes perfect sense to have one person to drive the football forward, and another to drive the business forward. Especially if it eliminates the type of fèck-ups we've witnessed recently. Obviously getting the appointments right will be critical, but if it works it will be money well spent in the long run.
I can’t imagine for a second he would come back here. There will be much more attractive positions on offer I’m sure.
If this new DoF is given the freedom to add footballing logic to the recruitment team's data, it could be the best money the club ever spent.
If he were to come who would be first team coach? Whoever it was he'd have to be ready for Hecky treading on his toes regarding team selection etc. Once a Manager, always a Manager!
He was a decent player for us in his time here but I always get the impression McBurnie is as thick as a plank and he often seems to be showing himself to be a bit of a liability for Sheffield United. He needs fining for what he did at the weekend. Truly brain dead. He's very lucky he will only be serving a 1 match ban for 2 yellows. Either of them could have been a straight red and a 3 match ban for violent conduct, particularly the first one.
