It wasn't the club who announced it was it?

It wasn't BFC that announced the signing though. It was Sheff Wednesday. Everyone connected to Barnsley Football Club was at Rimmo's funeral. That's why Winnall gets so much flak.

Although I was disappointed with his departure, I understood it. Timing was terrible. However, the way he celebrated a goal that should incidentally not have stood will always annoy me.
I get that he had stick, I don’t even mind him celebrating, especially in front of his own fans. What I will never forgive was the way he treated all Barnsley fans with contempt that day.Not just the fans but everyone at the club. His celebrations were ott and a two fingered salute to one and all. Including kids in the family stand who used to idolise him, coaching staff who developed him, physio staff who treated him.
Totally lacking in class or respect.
He’s not someone I’d talk to in a pub - unless I was telling him what a tw@t he was.

Yea very good finisher...imho we have had much better all-round strikers...who could bring others into games etc and better qualities but not many beat his finishing attributes.

Not sure why that's Winnalls fault. Surely BFC could have stipulated when the signing took place and when it was to be announced, especially in the circumstances.

Maybe they did. Maybe Winnall could have suggested not to do it on a certain day. Can't nail down BFC to cover every eventually surely. Sometimes other people/organisations can do things

Not according to stuff that was posted on here from Owlstalk... 8k was his wage, £18k was what was possible for him to earn with appearance and goal bonus money. He only played 36 games with 5 goals in his time with Wednesday, and 17 games with Derby, 6 goals in the loan spell.

That’s how I saw it as well and, as we know only too well these past months, those that run and administer the club make errors of judgement far too often.

Nobody at the time of his departure really came out of it with any credit but it wasn’t all down to the player. Far from it.

He was a really good player for us a good goalscorer. He did come across as a bellend at times, him having a go at a young lad over a misplaced pass in a friendly v Guiseley, kicking off with a pitch invader v Walsall and booting the ball into the east stand in anger just a few things. Also rumors of a scrap with forristieri in training at Hillsborough. And how he left was abit ****. I didn't mind the celebrating his goal at oakwell the amount of stick he took he was right to give some back.
But he gave us some good memories though and I think had he not suffered the bad injury on loan at Derby he would have had a much better career.

He was a fantastic player with an, apparently, moody temperament but played a massive part in a memorable season before being a part of a mass exodus and earning himself a few bob in the process.

Imagine you were on holiday, you’re out for a meal with your family when you glance across at the next table and spot Sam Winnall having a meal with his Mrs.
    Would you;
    A) March over and shout “Oi, Winnall, you back stabbing, turncoat ****!! Leave us for Sheffield Wednesday to line your pockets and disrespect a club legend at the same time, eh? You smug *******!!!”. Or,

    B) Slope over and say “Hi Sam. I’m a Barnsley fan and you were amazing in your time with us. Please may I have a selfie?”.

It’s only football, and to footballers, it’s only work.

Exactly this, he never seemed to recover from the bad injury he got while on loan at Derby. That can happen at anytime to any player. If he had stayed he may have had much the same career path and less money.

113 appearances after leaving us, 19 goals, 41 from 93 appearances for us, the grass certainly wasn’t greener. I wonder how much more he was getting paid.
