Agree as long as the board actually try and start building something rather than flogging off family silver every time they have a new shiny spoon. DoF could be crucial in next year or two but then again, even if he/she is good the board will still have to ratify the decisions. They need some balls and some long term vision, particularly in recruitment and selling.
Don’t worry they will be from a lower league and probably get ten minutes to warm up to get up to speed for their first game
Don't think many will agree with this but if any of the players whose contract expires in the summer don't sign a new one in January or we don't get a transfer for them in January then they don't play again for us for the rest of this season. I wouldn't want them around the training ground or anywhere near the team put them on gardening leave until the season is over. We have replacements already here lopata for Williams Dodgson for Cadden Russell for Kane Jalo for Cole Sign up or pxss off
BUt WhY diD MichAEL DUFf leAVe hE haS no LOYALty. Because he knew we were up **** creek. Not daft was he.
How many goals Cole got .....11?.....on track to get 20?.....be mad to sell with no guarantee of his replacement being any good
Bobby, or whoever is DoF, will still have to comply with the budgetary constraints set by the owners.
It is when Russell has scored the same amount of goals this season, from far less minutes on the pitch, despite not playing as far up the pitch.
Doesn't it make sense to offer current players more money to stay, than going out and spending **** loads of money on fees to sign others who walk free at the end of the deal.
It does, within reason, if they are players whom you would love to keep. I'm not sure Kane, Williams and Cole necessarily belong in that category. We did allegedly try hard to keep two excellent players at Oakwell in Hourihane and Mowatt. Gauthier said Patrick Cryne had offered Hourihane £14k per week, but Villa supposedly offered him twice that. As for Mowatt, I read that he was offered £15k per week, but West Brom no doubt offered him more. Mowatt, in particular, would be a great addition to our midfield now - not that there's any prospect of his returning, though there may possibly have been a chance, if we'd been promoted at Wembley.
Looking back a couple of seasons.. Williams was not championship standard as was Cole and Kane (who was sent out on loan as I recall) Styles has the mindset that he wants out but I like Cadden and feel he may well resign. But as regards the other three it's OK to say let them go but will the replacements prove any better. At the moment we are hoping that signing non league players with potential will see us through. Not sure it will work after all every team in the EFL would want the same.
We have to accept that players will move on. for various reasons. It's not just our club. It's evey football club in the world. The key is replacing those that move on with others who are just as good or better. We've not done so bad over the years. We've lost quality and replaced with quality. We've lost rubbish and replaced with rubbish etc etc. In this regard we are no different to any other club.
I too like Cadden, and I think we should do our best to keep him. He's often our main attacking threat.
I get the sentiment behind the post but surely it depends on the players attitude? If they keep trying and have a good attitude why not keep them as well? Don’t think anyone had any issues with Mowatt in his last 6 months as an example.
I agree but does raise the question of is there other options and if not perhaps goes a long way to what’s happening at the moment as it doesn’t look like we have any leaders in the club.
