I would look at Michael Mellon at Morecambe on loan from Burnley. Son of Micky, our ex-manager and scoring goals regularly in a struggling side. Decent quality of goals and he would thrive in a side which creates more chances than Morecambe do. I had touted Jake Young when he was scoring regularly, mainly as a sub, at Forest Green. He's now on loan at Swindon Town from Bradford City and top scoring in League Two. Hails from Shelley, so local to us. Now, how about a double deal for him and Harry Lewis, the keeper, if Liam Roberts is recalled by Boro, which looks possible. But would Bradford City let them come? Graham Alexander might need some cash to rebuild, so it could be. Davis Keiller-Dunn at Mansfield Town we have already been linked with. Isaac Alaofe at Stockport County, with whom we were connected when he was leaving Millwall. My best shot would be Michael Mellon, as he has the best potential for further improvement. Whether we could get him for a reasonable fee on a permanent is a different matter. I like the look of him, especially the quality of goals he scores. Looks a natural finisher. The others are all worth a good look. I would be more than chuffed if Devante were to stay, but he seems to be stalling on the new contract and will be worth nothing in the summer. He is reported to have some admirers in the Championship and I bet that he would jump at the chance if it were to come his way.
Cole should stay at Barnsley. His career as a goal scorer will be over if he moves to the Championship. He'll get the money but become a journeyman again moving around clubs trying to rediscover the form he had here. Seen it time and time again with players.
Trouble is money talks. He'll be a journeyman on a lot more money than he'd get scoring goals for us.
That lads a wind up merchant, notice how he picks the “top” player from every other club around them and then Paul Warne’s ex-club Rotherham? He does it every window to get bites from people.
Mellon is contracted to Burnley until 2025. I imagine if he continues to do well this season, it might be worth them either keeping him on his current contract and loaning him out again, and losing him on a free if he doesn't improve, or then offering him a contract that we'll not get close to if he performs (unless we offer silly money, which obviously we wouldn't)
Depends if we’re looking for a loan or permo. Jake Young, the lad from Wimbledon and Longstaff all suit what we tend to go for so either of them from League 2.
The Iraqi lad from AFC Wimbledon, maybe we should go in for him again? BTW, who's this Dave Cole that Owls are after?
