My point was that he was playing against a team made up mainly of players two years younger. He made the reading defender look daft on Saturday - that's how to make clubs notice him.

The only way to get clubs to notice is by him continuing to develop in the first team.

First club to knock on the door with an undisclosed 7 figure bid retaining an interest in his future
Then someone ITK will reveal it was £1m and they'll be a meltdown subsequently following the closure of the January's window where we sign a 19 year old CB on loan from Hull.
Jalo's transfer will then be justified at the next fans forum where JAQ explains the player indicated he wanted to leave and we got a record league 1 fee for a teenager and all the funds have been reinvested back into the club, at which point Neil Collins goes redder, coughs and reaches for a drink of water.
    Sound about right?

He's seriously playing for the under 18s?

We seem to have learned to some extent, but the board have still got agents to deal with. I hope Bobby Hassell can make some difference in this.

I don't think clubs below the Premier league have enough protection when it comes to these prem teams or big clubs overseas basically asset stripping young players that have been developed by the smaller clubs.

I'd like to see some mandatory clauses introduced, for the club that has basically done all the development work. This relatively small compensation fee (if the club offers a contract) doesn't cover it if they come in and tempt the player away with daft money.

It should also be included for sell on fees / international caps at a basic level as standard then it gives a bigger incentive to the smaller clubs to bring through the youth players.

Same with the young players like Jalo if he was for instance under a 3 yr contract, those clauses should be inserted as mandatory basics, then anything above is negotiated by the clubs.

WIthout this, the big clubs know a big wage / signing on fee etc will be enough to turn the players head, leaving the lower league club with whatever minimum the big club can get away with.

Another idea is some form of mandatory payment if you are signing a player under contract or offered a contract and are under X yrs of age and have been through the selling clubs academy etc. Put this small payment into a national grass roots football fund to help develop young talent for the country from a community club level. Doesn't have to be a massive payment, but it can only benefit our national squad in the end if this money helps being through talent.

Well, that has to be the worse case scenario. Let's hope he stays in the UK. Whatever we get for him here is better than nowt.

I hope he stays for abit and signs a new deal, trys to play some Misters football and gain experience. Look at holgate broke into the 1st team then we didn't see him for dust probably made alot of money but if he had gained more football league experience could have had a better career. If he goes to a premier league side or even a top end championship he will just be playing reserve football with mostly kids.

It’s all about getting that big contract asap though. You’re only ever an injury from getting that taken away.

Yeah I know and most likely he will be gone in January. I just think sometimes these kids would be better getting more competive game time under there belt to develop.

I think the highest fee paid for a young lad of similar age to jalo was when charlton sold lookman to Everton for 8 million who's now at atlanta in serie A. So something around that fee will do.

I take it you wouldn't have him training either then.

Which part have we learned though? Only part I can see is we've now got our fly hole open and windmilling that we got the 2nd highest transfer fee for a L1 defender, that's all good and well, congrats to the board but we replaced them with an unwanted Rotherham loanee, a young lad from Shedf utd U23 and an even younger lad from Pontefract Colliery, obviously we've reinvested.
They'll look at Jalo and rub their hands knowing he's not a regular 1st team player and doesn't have to be replaced.....kerching time again

10million , players like him don't come along too often. Then a bigger sell on clause.

It's impossible to answer because I honestly have no idea how long his contract has left or what the compensation situation is if he left at the end of it.

We don't even know his personal situation. Is he happy to play it slowly at Barnsley, playing regular academy football and the occasional substitute appearance in league one to aid his development that way? Or is he the kind of person who wants to be getting first team football now? Or to be in the academy of a bigger team?

It really is impossible to know his worth. Could be literally zero, could be £10m or more

He was a regular a few seasons back. Currently on loan at Southampton where he's struggling for game time Everton dying to get shut. 27 he should be in his peak.
