"There's things that I regret". No sht. Same here Rick.

This is probably one of those tunes that people think is Britpop bilge, but I was about 16 at the time so it feels like it was the greatest thing ever.

That chorus could really shoot it up you though.

Much like a Barnsley comeback, the chorus of this comes out of nowhere. I think it's brilliant - and I wasn't really a fan of theirs. Sometimes 80s pop was just amazing. Only took a day to write too.

The beat obituary ever written. Ray Davies lost his sister at a young age, and brings her back to life with this magical number about how she liked to go to the disco on a Saturday Night. Like we all did.

 

We have to have these two on here don't we, on today of all days. A pair of Christmas classics.

OASIS - SUPERSONIC

Their debut. It turned up, punched you in the face and left. Written in the studio by Noel because he watched the studio dog have some bad drugs (Elsa on Alka-Seltzer) - and that's why they were the best. And I like putting Oasis songs in this because you all hate them so much. Great solo too.

I think it was Pete Hann who wrote this classic and it caused massive arguments in the band about the royalties. A couple of the band members committed suicide I think.

That intro could last for an hour for me - sets the stage for the biiiiiig power chords. Pete giving it the windmill guitar, and a brilliant screaming vocal about pissed up kids who are all wasted.

THE BEATLES - IN MY LIFE

Just a beautiful, beautiful song. There's conjecture about who wrote which part, but there's no denying that the end result is both heartbreaking and magical.

Lennon allegedly wrote it regarding his childhood and the people he'd loved and lost - and McCartney supposedly had the melody and the middle.

Either way it doesn't matter. It's stunning.
