What about those in the Brewery Stand. Most used to just p*** at the back underneath the wooden steps.
Wanging pi55 in plastic bags whilst ont terrace afore chasing Ponte enders. Luckily I wasn't in the line of fire lol. Good old days.
Could just walk round all the ground when I first went, can remember standing on mud heap opposite Ponte End with Away fans Good times
Tiptoe through the ponte. That was a proper stand, not like the soulless libraries we have to sit down in now. My parents used to have a season ticket every single year until they had to sit down. They never went to a match again.
There used to be a gate between the Ponte and the Terrace as well with a turnstyle. I can't remember when they stopped been used, probably early 70's.
I can remember kipper Jackson climbing on the roof in protest at plod for confiscating his karaoke machine throwing slates from the pie shack ,I believe it could have been boxing day
Yeah i can remember that but I think it got stopped as people could wonder in at half time for nowt, think it opened 20 minutes from end of game on coppers advice Some of the sh@t that was served up on the pitch in those days they should have opened them after 15 minutes
That’s a hard one to call. I think the capacity was around 40k but all of that except the Pigeon Loft above the Terrace was Standing. Never sure of the capacity of the Stands individually.
I remember the gate. It was well in use ……..forever. The key was to persuade the gateman to let you through which the Club got stricter on as the Crowds increased and the cost of standing on the Terrace became greater than the Ponty or the Brewery. I do remember that someone had removed one of the metal railings that separated the Ponty from the Terrace and for a time you could crawl through that.
I just remember walking round to stand behind the goals on the kop, or the Brewery Stand when segregation was more strict
Watched my first match with my late father back in 1961. It was a cup game vs Leicester City. Never saw a thing as it was packed and only 5 years old so I just played with a football key ring my dad had bought me at the end of the terracing.
Now this is what you call a crowd. Barnsley fc vs Leicester City in the FA Cup 1961 and my first match. .....39, 250 https://www.facebook.com/share/v/UfCnp4TAZQQNd9gB/
Me and my mates stood in front of one of the holes. Could be absolutely freezing some days, particularly in the mid-80s when there was nobody there. But did we move? No! Cos that’s where we stood!
