When will we get the first chorus to the tune of Barnsley a s#it hole. Barnsley is brilliant ,we want to stay here lol.
Maybe all these lights not being on is an economy issue. Can’t afford the electricity to power them maybe?
No, it’s just the lack of reporting/maintenance budget. The majority of Local Authority lighting is charged on the number of fixtures in place - and average consumption expected. This gets revised when LEDs are fitted. So basically, the Local Authority still gets charged whether it’s working or not - there is no metering in place. Same applies to bus shelters too. Large Bus and all Train stations etc are metered - but again, it’s just lack of reporting/monitoring and investment. Back in the old days, the Station Master would be all over it and kept these places clean and up to date. They don’t exist now.
This is brilliant to see! Huddersfield town centre is a dump in comparison to Barnsley. Excited for this afternoon's game, heading into town with my 2 young uns around lunchtime to get some food before the game!
Ok I didn’t know that but this presumably doesn’t apply to street lighting where alternate lights are switched off and then all of them are off after midnight - just when you want them on for security
Do they come under this link https://www.barnsley.gov.uk/service...iture/street-lights-and-illuminated-bollards/
Thanks for the photos. I really don't recognise Barnsley these days. I cannot see the halo though. Has it been turned off for Christmas?
Off out for a few Christmas drinks on the 29th for a mates birthday. I'm actually excited to be going out round Barnsley. Not since the days of Heaven and Hell when I was 17 have I been so up for it.
It’s specifically applies to street lighting. Any energy schemes where they turn off at midnight etc or upgraded to LED are calculated on that basis for costings. They are not metered and are powered simply from the mains electricity. So every street light that is not working, the council are still charged for its anticipated consumption regardless.
Still a nightmare for anybody that’s not good on their legs before you just had to walk across a crossing ,people can say sour grapes.
Even more impressive crossing it, what a beautiful piece of steel it is Got a lovely little bounce to it as well.
Walked across it today. The structure itself is a fantastic addition to the town, but £12m is a massive sum! Also did they have a clerk of works and has it been properly snagged? Some of the finishes and smaller details looked a little untidy/rushed to completion.
Not really followed it to be honest didn’t,t know they were lifts any ideas how many you can get in them. My dad ain’t been to Barnsley for 5 years because of the steps but that’s good news.
