The access issues, hoops supporters have to jump through, pack of fanzine due to lack of investment in infrastructure from owners, a mascot thats an insult to the Toby tyke of the 90s and generally a dour matchday experience puts people in a bit of a bad mood before the game even kicks off. That's the problem but they're reluctant to do anything about it

I'm blaming the fans not the club, they've been poor for seasons. Other fans don't themselves.

I'm being realistic. Put people in a bad mood and they'll not turn into performing monkeys for you.

Every top TV show has a warm up act to get the audience into the right frame of mind, even superstar musicians have support acts to get you going before they come on.

What do we have? Road closures, stupid carpark rules and zero pre match entertainment. You can't blame fans for not being in a jovial mood when you've done nothing to get them into that mood.

You have to ask. Are Barnsley fans somehow genetically different to other people or is there another factor? And the answer is there's another factor. So what is that factor? And frankly you have to come to the conclusion it's the running of the club.

These are teenage kids/early 20s they don't care about Toby Tyke etc, it's irrelevant to them. They were crap last season, Duff brought it up on numerous occasions. The support is just ***** at home.

I'll say again then. Why? Are Barnsley fans genetically different? Nope

So there has to be a reason. What is it?
The access to oakwell simply cannot be ignored. It's a huge factor.
The lack of a fan zone can't be ignored.
The lack of any pre match entertainment can't be ignored.

We can just say 'the fans are ****, they're just ****. It's ****, they're ****' or we can try to identify why and sort it because I don't believe for one second that it's because Barnsley fans are different to the rest of the world.

Of course football fans are different, Newcastle are more fanatical than us for example, different areas support their teams differently. We can't keep blaming the club, others - Lincoln for example have set up their own singing sections, crowd funded flags etc. Ours have had the flags bought by the club, fire pyrotechnics etc. the club can't make them sing and support the team - they need to do that themselves.

I’m with you. Can’t just blame the club for the lack of atmosphere, it’s been poor for years to be fair, apart from a couple of months last season when we beat all the top sides. Not sure what the answer is to improve it either.

We scored 7 goals on the opening day if the season and the atmosphere was flat. I'm sorry, but you can't put that down to people having their bags searched and a lack of a bar outside the stadium. There's no correlation. In my opinion, I reckon 9/10 people who attend games don't care that there's no fan zone, or for the quality of the half time entertainment, or Toby Tyke.

The scarf twirling across the stands for the goals celebrations even stopped, apart from a few in each stand.

Was in ESL row 5. It really warmed me up. We got a bonus with the disallowed goal. Good day with my nephew Harry, who is a true Red, despite growing up in Leeds. He's at Nottingham Trent Uni, so games are a bit thin for him, but he is a serious follower of the team.
