Styles got his own thread for his pass and mcatees control and scoring a worldie goal on Saturday. So I thought herbie deserved one for his inch perfect pass for Phillips header. Class hope he stays in January sometimes doesn't get the recognition he deserves.
Yeah should have scored that. He also put Cole through with another through ball he narrowly put wide when he should have scored. I thought when we were 3 nil up players were playing asif we had won taking stupid shots that ended up in the away end should/could have been more clinical today.
Kane's a quality player for us and Port vale gave him all the time in the world in the first half to pick his passes. I really hope he stays beyond this season.
Played well today and if McAtee keeps making those runs in behind, I’d like think Herbie will start to look forward a bit more. He’s class in this division and contrary to that weird interview he gave, seems to be “into it” on the pitch for us.
One of the best midfielders in the league and if it wasn’t for his ability to turn around over a four day spell, would be a top Champ footballer. Class footballer.
Brilliant player, if it wasn’t for the arsey interview & the contract situation he’d be a shoe in for player of the season.
I agree he's got a lot of ability, and I agree that the time it takes him to turn is one of his weaker points. But that's a proper mean way to say it.
No "disrespect" intended towards Callum Styles but I'd much rather have Herbie Kane in the side than Callum. Kane scores and makes goals, Callum's invovement in these two, rather important, activities is much less frequent....
He reminds me of Stephen McPhail. By which I mean I think he's similar to what you'd get if we gave current day Stephen McPhail a game.
A big factor why we struggle against the better sides. Give Herbie time and space on the ball and he has the ability to hurt sides. Teams that operate a high press have, this season, tended to give us more problems. When pressed Herbie finds it much harder when his lack of pace is exposed. Good performance today but Port Vale gave plenty of time and space in midfield.
What? Connell’s barely played, Roberts missed a couple of months, McAtee & De Gevigney show promise but are pretty inconsistent.
I think overall his performances have not been of the quality he showed last season but he has improved his goal involvements from 11 all of last season to 10 already this season so you have to give him credit for that. I think his lack of pace and athleticism seriously limit him as a player and the level he is playing at now (top 6 L1) is about right and his tackling is poor (probably understandable given past injuries but he pulls out of too many). His attitude on the pitch is generally very good. He rarely goes missing even when not playing well but at the same time he’s not as good as he thinks he is. Overall I don’t think he was worth our outlay if the million plus fee is true but a definite asset in L1 against teams that don’t press and allow him to play. When he doesn’t have the time or space he can become a passenger but as before puts the effort in.
To be fair I remember when folk on here said Alex Mowatt didn't have enough pace to play centre midfielder. Which was bollix. I watched a 36 year old Scott Parker dictate the game for Fulham at center midfield and was motm at oakwell and his legs were gone.
I thought he was great the first half yesterday, but pretty poor in the second half, and has to shoulder some of the blame for the game being as close at the end as it was. His passing goes from the sublime to the ridiculous and I'd argue he's probably the most inconsistent player in the squad. One minute, he's playing a pass as good as anyone. A pass that wouldn't look out of place in the Premier League. The next, he's receiving the ball in acres of space, in the middle of the park, and knocking the ball out of play with his first touch, without looking at where anyone in a red shirt is. When he's got the ball at his feet, you're confident he'll try and pick out a pass that other players just don't see. But if he's even ever so slightly rushed, he tends to panic and lobs the ball aimlessly over the top or out wide to nobody. He's often criticised for his lack of pace or his tendency to go backwards, but I don't think either of those ever cost us. It's his lack of composure at times when someone a little more level headed would be able to create something on a more consistent basis. But I guess that's why he's playing in league 1. Yesterday's game was Herbie Kane in a nutshell for me.
He's done a couple of interviews that, imho, were really badly judged. After the last one I was sure he wanted away. But in the following game he looked delighted when we scored and I haven't seen anything from his performances that suggests he's desperate to leave. That doesn't mean he won't, but he's putting in the effort while he's here and that's all you can ask of a player. I personally find him frustrating at times, as I can see he has talent and he does show it in most matches, but all too often he's sloppy and I believe he could do better. Too many silly fouls and little flicks that get us nowhere. But we all have players we take a shine to and others we're more critical of. I don't have any problem with his application and I can see when he's on it he's of great benefit to the team, particularly in terms of creating goalscoring opportunities. I would suggest he either takes some media coaching or stops doing interviews though.
Maybe not cost us in the goal against column (nearly as though) and I would argue he often kills the flow that may have been fruitful. I find him exasperating. I think Luca is more creative and he is meant to be the defensive midfielder.
In retrospect, maybe that interview was a bit of performance art. With a black and white filter on it would look like a bleak character piece of which Ingmar Bergman would have been proud.
