With the benefit of hindsight, Loparta should’ve started. I know moving Williams to RWB leaves a lack of pace in the back three, but the need for a physical presence in there is much greater.
Agree with that. We're lacking height at the back and as a result the opposition play on it and most of the goals we're conceding are headers
I can only think Collins as no trust in Loparta, being a centre half himself he probably knows far more than anyone of us on here about defending......
Lopata looked class early doors before injury. Thought he was our next Golden Egg. I would still prefer him in a three to Williams, who we seem intent on ruining. I actually like William's who I think is a steady L1 / Championship RWB. Why the obsessing (NC) with pace in the 3. Timing and awareness more important and the pace can come from the flanks.
Imho having 2 brand new centre backs and a rwb as our starting 3 is asking a lot....and asking far too much of the defenders brought in to do a job at the same time. They all have potential but to chuck them in together from lesser standard than div one...was not clever at best. Only McCart has experience and although no worldbeater has probably been our most consistent defender. Hopefully sir Bobby can get the missing link in and make us more robust.
2 centre half's away from having a good crack at top 2, and that's from someone who doesn't particularly rate Collins
Well there you go, I thought Williams had his best game for a number of weeks apart from the in off the red goal where I thought the goalie could have done better.
Not all great centre half's have pace ,look back at Taggart no pace but a great stopper . Played at a great level too, and could sup his guiness too ,had some great nights .
Also not sure Maca(McCarthy) that goid old Worsbro Irish international were quick but was as goid as owt in air…. mind you must have been hard to miss with wi size of his head!!…joking
