I’d love to see Raynor as leader. I think she can genuinely connect with people. Phillips I also like. She is passionate and committed to what she believes in (even if I don’t especially share her politics). Kinnock not sure about I do really like Darren Jones though. He’s terrific in committees
Get what you're saying but country as a whole didn't agree with their principles - even as a heavily industrialised country the Labour Party hardly ever won a general election. Blair won in 97 but moving to the centre and wooing buisness not the left. For whatever reason country doesn't support economic socialism ... I'm not sure where Keir stands at the minute or Labour party as a whole but then again I'm not sure what we stand for as a country. People seem to enjoy blaming less fortunate in society
I’m far too young to remember myself but my mum & dad always tell me this is ******** & that Smith was well on the way to been elected with huge poll leads & that he was left wing
Maybe so but history shows that the country has generally shunned the left even at the height of industralisation - country flirts with Labour then constantly gets dragged back to a more Conservative government
You can't slip a cig paper between any of them. They're all bought and paid for. And this see-saw game between either red or blue is purely an illusion of choice. Whether you believe that or not, when was the last time we had a politician, of any stripe, actually serve us, better our lives, defend us against corporate greed etc? None of them do anything that rocks the boat or disrupts the status quo.
Whilst in general you are right, on this particular example you aren’t. The guardian and the writer of the piece are far from right wing.
You can criticise labour all you want but they aren't anything like the corrupt racist scum that are currently in charge.
You honestly think those currently on the opposition front bench will be as corrupt as the current incumbents? Will feather their beds to the detriment of the country and benefit of big corporate sponsors? Then lie and cheat to get away with it? Starmer might not be a proper socialist nor represent many traditional Labour values - but I’d trust him to be competent. Even Sunak’s own constituency have decided Starmer would make a better prime minister. Yes he’ll be a bit of a boring, steadying hand than pioneer. He might not be what many of us ideally want - but he is definitely the best on offer. And you couldn’t only slip a cig paper between him and the likes of Sunak, Johnson, Gove - you could tow an ocean liner sidewards through the cavernous gap.
After 13 years of corruption, austerity, sleaze, cruelty, lies, and more lies but yet you are still having a go at Starmer, my god man. We have had the likes of Gisela Stuart, Kate Hoey, Angela "funny Tinge" Smith and that Woodcock article in the Labour Party before so obviously 1 or 2 more will turn up and show their real colours. If you want another 5 years of the Torys keep having a go at Starmer you never know you might get some to vote Tory.
I can't believe how despite all the evidence, people continue to fall for "dead cat" trick. But Corbyn,,,,,,,,, but Starmer,,,,,,, but Blair. Give me a break! Open your eyes people
im not seeing that as proof that the Guardian or Observer is a far right newspaper nor that a long standing centrist Labour MPs is a member of this right wing hegemony. Again happy to see some proof to meet the assertion if you have any.
Well Streeting is clearly in the pay of those that wish to privatise the NHS. 200k gets you a lot of access and suddenly more privatisation is the answer. So let’s give Labour they are not Tories. What actual policies do they have for left of centre voters. They have austerity, privatisation of the NHS, hard Brexit and demonisation of asylum seekers for the gammons but what’s in it for anyone vaguely left of centre?
Simple really. Vote conservative, statement of greed and selfishness. Vote Labour. statement of hope and compassion. Vote Lib Dem, declaration of utter cluelessness. It's now a **** world we live in, corrupt and glorifying self interest, turning good people bad through fear. Nowt left of a society now. Someone will be a happy Maggie.
What policies precisely that Labour are putting forward would you say offer hope and compassion? I’ve voted tactically at the last 5 elections and would be happy to vote tactically again for anyone to the left of David Cameron. So LibDems / Greens / Plaid if I lived in wales / The SNP if I lived in Scotland. All offer something to left of centre voters. I can’t see that Labour do in concrete policy terms.
More likely letting Reform UK in. Starmer, promising to pursue austerity, won't rebuild the forgotten towns of the Red Wall that turned blue in 2019. 5 years of more of the same and Labour, along with moderate Tories, will be toast. Right wing populism is on the march all over the world.
