I'm guessing that @arabian_ian or @REDINBURGH will be able to help me with this one. I'm in Edinburgh the last weekend in January, quite fancy taking in Hearts v Aberdeen. Tickets don't seem to be on sale yet. Is there likely to be pay on the day available or the match is likely to be all-ticket? Is there usually any restriction on people who've never bought before, especially as I have an English address? TIA!

Unlikely to be a cash gate.
Away tickets will be scarce and possibly all gone.
Applying direct to Hearts only option for a ticket for the home end. You might be lucky. Hope you are. Tyncastle a good day out.

Thanks Ian. If push comes to shove I can always jump on a train and come to watch the Arabs against the Pars!

Well if you do you won’t meet me as I should hopefully be in Shetland that week.
There for my grandson’s 14th birthday on the 29th and Up Helly Aa on the 30th.

That's a pity. I'm sure Shetland in January will be suitably wild! I'm going to do my utmost to get Hearts tickets though, as it seems to be two hours from Edinburgh to Dundee even though it's only 60 miles!

Hey up Ian. I know internet will give me some info but always fancied visiting Shetland. Is up helly aa worth the effort and probably overcrowding and pricing or would summer be a more realistic option.

Well mate no chance of seeing Up Hella As in the summer. It’s a winter fire festival and always on the last Tuesday in January.
It’s spectacular and a long drinking night.
But be prepared for some very cold wet windy weather. It never gets cancelled for the weather. But well worth doing if only once. And yes hotel b&b prices are on the higher side that week. Also make sure you book your boat early so as not to be disappointed. And remember your voyage is 14 hours and it could be like the Arctic convoys.
Going to Shetland in the summer is a much more pleasurable experience. Long summer days. Sun in June only dips for around 4 hours. Totally different experience.
    Hope this helps Chop.

Yes, just double checked - Google was only showing buses as there are no trains today! If it's an hour I'll definitely consider it if I can't get tickets for Tynecastle.

Thanks Ian. As a cold weather lover January sounds great. It certainly sounds appealing winter or summer so will have a look.

Well Merde did you get a ticket for Tynecastle? I hope you did as apparently our game v Dunfermline was a no score bore.
How did you find the Game and atmosphere at Tynecastle. I’m hoping you had a great time in Edinburgh.

This thread has just reminded me that I've been to Tynecastle. Went years and years ago to see them play the Germans. It was a good atmosphere as I recall. Not as good as Tannadice obviously
And of course Rangers won. God, it must be boring being a Rangers/Celtic fan.

I've been to Tyncastle a couple of times pre covid and tickets were easy enough to obtain for games other than the old firm. However they've had a huge increase in demand since and now often only release match tickets very near the actual game and then usually only for the Roseburn stand (split away end). This is frustrating for travel plans but maybe drop them an email next time and they might sort something.

I dropped in on their forum and they were super helpful. It's mostly season ticket holders there, so they have a scheme where people who can't make it out up their tickets for resale. I got an excellent seat on the side a couple of weeks before the match, but there were just odd ones available dotted around the stadium.

Apologies @Merde Tete - I haven't been on the forum for a few weeks so totally missed your post. I would have been able to help as well. But it looks as though you managed to get sorted. You were right about the resales. I managed to get 3 tickets to watch their game v Ross County at the end of December. Quite a good game to be fair as it was 2v2. I bought tickets through their website. And they were season tickets offered up for resale. But again as you discovered it's not easy to get seats together. I was lucky to get two seats together and one isolated about 5 rows away.
