Odd that their shirt is encouraging holidays in Rwanda, are most Arsenal fans illegal immigrants or summat?
Spurs also donned an all white kit against Burnley in support of the campaign. There was a 16 year old kid stabbed to death in London a week or so ago so the cause has gained momentum.
Agreed. Wearing a white kit today will change absolutely nothing. Nutters will still carry knifes. Anyone carrying a knife won't have decided they won't do anymore now Arsenal have worn a white kit. It's as you say a token gesture and clubs like to look busy getting involved in campaigns. The problem is they involve themselves in so many that it loses meaning. Less is more. They don't have to be involved in something most months of the playing season.
What does it actually hurt? Do you really disagree that even if just one 13/14/15 year old kid gets dissuaded from going out with a knife after seeing their favourites on a pitch, it's worth it? It's costs nothing. In fact, they could even auction off those shirts and give the money to a knife crime/youth charity. Saying this after a high profile murder of a young lad last week by a 16 year old is just tasteless to me. The kit changes nothing, doesn't change player ability, tactics, fans' entertainment. Nowt.
I'm saying seeing Arsenal playing one home game in a all white kit won't stop any nasty person who currently carries a knife from doing so.
Yes, wear white shirts, BLM, take the knee, complain about the Police stop and search tactics, but don't actually talk about who is generally doing all the knifing and who the victims are otherwise you're the racist.
Good grief. Some of the views I find utterly baffling. Football Club does nothing: they’re pampered stars in ivory towers who give nothing back to their community. Football Club does something: it’s just virtue signalling and achieves nothing.
How were they allowed to wear white numbers though? Even with a thin outline they were a pig to try and read!
It’s unlikely that anyone carrying one now will stop because of it (although it might, you never know) but it’ll have an impact on some younger kids who see it who will decide now that they’ll never start and will stick to that as they get older.
