Had an email this morning saying that my tv license had expired, and if I wanted to renew I could get 95% of.
If I renewed now they would take my bank details now but not take any money out until later.By the time I had finished laughing I looked where it had come from.LAS VEGAS I’m telling you these con people get worse.:D:D:D

I read somewhere that the scams are deliberately pretty obvious to make sure that anyone who responds is very gullible. It's a waste of the scammers' time if the initial email looks semi credible and then lots of people realise it's a scam at a later stage. By making it fairly obvious you ensure that you're only dealing with responses from people who are likely to fall for it all the way through to making payment.

It doesn't just cover TV, although the BBC does do some great TV.

    I could not disagree more.

For more on that story, see my rant on subscription/Sky services on another thread.

for what though? Fair enough they do the odd great programme but loads of very , very average stuff!
They are always pleading poverty but then piss away money on stupid salaries to the likes of Lineker.
Nobody is saying close the BBC just bring it into the modern world and let it earn its money.

In fairness though, they have to pay a competitive salaries to people, as they have to compete with the other channels. They couldn't do that if they paid a pittance.

He gets some grief, but his football credentials are better than most and he has 20 years of broadcast experience. He probably gets the going rate for what he does - and IIRC his salary costs the average viewer of MOTD something like 3-4p per episode.

Not what they were paying Lineker or Shearer though, they could easily have got credible pundits for a lot less, let’s face it who listens to them anyway?

It does some great TV. Wildlife programmes, dramas etc. And as I've said further down it's not just TV included, radio, website, BBC iPlayer, podcasts. £159 a year is nowt for what you get.

Is there a broadcaster on this planet as good as the BBC? If so, who and what does it cost to watch/listen to/ access?
