Just that really. It appears that there is more than a little belief that Jamie McCart has been more solid than not and that Connell is the best midfield player in the club. Both missing and still a win! How did their replacements fare today?

Thought Shepherd was decent for most part other than a couple of passes and mishaps in positioning.

For me, Russell was really poor, especially his passing - simple passes too. The drop off is insanely high when he plays in place of Connell

We came out attacking from the off which was great to see. Second half I thought we were slow to get going but overall I felt sure we would get the win. I didn't really feel we were missing them this particular match tbf, Shephard had a good game.

Connell would walk into any team in this league, so was always going to be a miss. Russell did OK. Gave the ball away a few times, but did his job. Shepard had a good game. Still very raw. Showed some good composure and nearly got himself a goal.

I thought we looked worse AFTER taking Russell off

When Russell went off our midfield looked weaker without him.

Shepherd did well and can be pleased with his performance, he is a capable back up left sided defender.

Great team goal to win the game.

I thought Shepherd played well ' he seems very confident and has good awareness' he could be a bit of find i reccon' i'd hang on to him rather than sending him out on loan' Russell just isn't good enough' far too slow and cumbersome..

Shepherd had a very good game.

When Russell came off it weakened us, resulted in us conceding and Bristol having more chances than whilst he was on.

Shepherd was tidy. Devigney will have to cut out the multitude of mistakes he is prone to if he wants to cement a place going forward. Could end up 5th in the pecking order.

Really? I think he's our only consistently decent/good defender and who has had brilliant games for us. He's a ball playing CB so there will always be odd passes/risks what don't come off, but by a mile he's first in that back line for me mate.

Sorry mate but disagree (opinions eh) 5 today to my knowledge. I actually said afore the game. He's a couple at least every game. I pray this new lad makes us a more solid unit at the back. Collins is going to have his work cut out to choose his best 2/3.

    Russell should be ashamed of himself, and so should Collins for picking him. I don't know how many times he needs to play until Collins will see that;

    1. He can't run. And I mean that literally.

    2. He lacks effort.

    3. He can't pass.

    4. He slows the play down to walking pace.

    5. He refuses to track runners.

    6. He doesn't close people down, that's why McAtee was forced to commit that foul in the first half.

I'd play Yoganathan instead of Russell every single day of the week. I'd also be literally begging teams to take Russell off of our hands this month. Such a poor, poor player.

Russell is an absolute waste of a shirt, we would be better playing with 10 men. Is Matty Wolfe fit anytime soon?!?!

also I don’t know who thought Cosgrove was a striker but I will have whatever they’ve been smoking.

Russell is an excellent footballer, perhaps too good for the players he's playing with but he's not getting any game time so he's a bit off the pace and short of confidence. Cut him some slack and he will come good.

I said the same P. His reading of the game is excellent. His problem for me is the appearance he gives off. Looking disinterested at times.

To answer the OP: The changes made a poor team even poorer, which is quite a feat.

    Rubbish.
I'm 58, got two left feet and wearing dockers I'd have played better than him.

Russell is abysmal. I know it's not fashionable to criticise players on here but wow, he is so bad. He makes Liam Dickinson look like Kevin de Bruyne.

I will say regarding Russell, the energy he does give off can be a detriment. When he went on that charging run (should have been a foul I think anyway!) up the pitch, he then just completely misplaced an easy short pass - instead of chasing back he stood still with his hands on his head. When he's at full pelt he isn't as slow as he seems, but sometimes really does flatter to deceive
