It depends though if the guy was already in an ambulance and on his way to hospital then yes the game could carry on. But if they were still working on him like happened to us a few years ago it’s just right to call off the game
TBF I didn’t mean carry on the game while they were working on anyone in the stands, but if they are moved and on the way to hospital, why not? I would honestly feel guilty if I spoiled things for folks who had travelled.
Hope the people in this thread who suggested thr gsme should've carried on gain a bit of perspective from this and take a long look in the mirror tonight. RIP.
Sad news -- Sincere Condolances. My guess is the medics would have realised it was a serious situation - they would have relayed this information to the Club and subsequently stopping the match was absolutely the right decision.
why? All I said is if it happened to me I would be happy for the game to carry on, that was a personal opinion and I would stand by it, as a football fan I wouldn’t want anybody else to miss out. At the time he was taken ill nobody knew what the outcome would be. Obviously now we know the sad outcome RIP and sincere condolences to the family.
You make light of a tragic event - we're not talking about a sprained ankle here! It would have been apparent to many supporters that it was a very serious issue and I doubt if they would want the game to continue. My guess is that the medics would want the area where it happened to be cleared of supporters before the body was removed - away from public gaze - and to minimise distress to other old/young supporters. Also there may have been friends/family there and they would have been very distressed. For the game to continue would have been crass and disrespectful. The right decision was made.
Spot on. I remember the Burton game where we waited around for 15-20 minutes. There was a huge round of applause from both sets of fans when the match was abandoned. Sometimes a game of football is secondary.
Scummy Sun headline " footy binned.. over ill fan" RIP, to the Bolton fan and condolences to his friends and family
RIP sir Some fans say they will never read the sun again. Why would anyone want to buy that rag in the first place.?.
I’m not making light of anything, all I said was that if similar happened to me, once things settled down again I would be happy for the game to carry on. Obviously on this occasion the poor fan passed sadly passed away in hospital, which is incredibly sad for everybody close to him, but he might not have. I’ve always been a massive fan and just don’t see why anybody should miss out because of me. Who does it affect in reality? Any friends in attendance and maybe a few fans in close proximity. The rest , if the game continued it would all be quickly forgotten,
I remember several yrs ago. An elderly gentleman collapsed at the side of me. During the half time interval in the east stand concourse. No one rushed forward. So I tried my best on my own to try revive the guy. Everyone else just Gawping. thankfully others came (seemed ages) from the st John's team and took over. To this day I dont know if they revived the guy. I do agree with your point to a degree and understood .so don't beat yourself up. As we didnt know how it finally panned out. Did the guy pass away on the scene.. A doctor I believe. can only confirm. I remember the incident on the Ponty not so long before or after. I dont remember that outcome either. Game wasn't abandoned. Not sure it was even stopped. They all have to be taken on merit. They also used an Helicopter which exacerbated our abandonment.
