Does that mean he’s now got 9 centuries in 25 frames ( so far ) ? That’s incredible or have I worked it out wrong ? That is the frames he’s won
Good stuff Ronnie. I don't think he will win the Grand Prix that starts tomorrow if we are having a thread for it.
Chuffed he won but ROS is clearly on the wane. I saw an interview with Steve Davis and he suggested one of the first things that goes is the ability to win frames in one visit all the time. More errors are creeping into his game. An Allen, Trump or Selby would have beaten him tonight.
He's just won the Masters, at 48 and playing 'alright' at best. He's an absolute one-off, a genius. His 'alright' still beats everyone. At 48. Crackers really.
He still has a poor attitude though, and tends to argue a lot with the Snooker bosses. And he just sounds more and more these days, as though he's not interested in the game anymore.
He has well-documented mental health issues which the professional game and Ron himself do well to manage, even though it gives rise to odd comments/behaviour from time to time. Because of that we still get to enjoy watching the GOAT.
Ronnie is a bit like Taylor was at the darts in his pomp, his reputation as a player puts pressure on the opposition before he even starts. Stephen Hendry of all people talked about it during every match about how a player is under more pressure over each shot which makes the game harder. In the darts the younger players breaking through didn’t have that fear but in the Snooker world it still hasn’t.
People have been saying that about him since he dropped out of the top 16 about 11 years ago, and yet he's won 14 ranking tournaments since then. I think he chooses to come across as not interested so that he doesn't get accused of being arrogant, because he knows he's by far and away the greatest player of all time.
He's won 2 triple crown events this season and could easily end up winning all 3. You (and others) have been saying he's finished for years but he keeps winning.
Disappointed yet again, with Ronnie's comments. Very disrespectful to Carter IMO. Then there's the idiots in the crowd. If they had been Carter fans, he would have had plenty to say about it. He would have probably stopped playing, or got them thrown out or summat. But they were Ronnie fans, so they were 'the best fans in the world'. He's the greatest that's ever played, but he's getting increasingly arrogant.
Him & Carter just don’t get on bordering on hatred at times. Carter to his credit tried to be magnanimous in defeat with his comments unfortunately Ronnie didn’t reciprocate. Normally Ronnie is complimentary of the beaten finalist but he couldn’t resist a few digs and his reaction when Carter said jokingly he was getting sick of him said it all.
He is a genius, but as you say, he was nowhere near his best. There was a time, 5 or 10 years ago, where you knew he was going to win the tournament after his first session. He's not at that level any more, but still winning the major titles. It's not a great reflection on the rest of them to be honest, it's like when Ian Botham was still getting aussies out at the end of his career, despite being overweight and bowling at a spinners speed.
He's still unbelievable to watch, even at 70% which is what he seemed to be at this last week. Let's not forget, the bloke took a year off 10 years ago or whatever, then came back without any tournament action behind him and won the worlds. Genius.
That's my view. The standard of the players is better than the 80's and 90's but as as a collective the sport has plateaued. O' Sullivan can still win tournaments at 48 is because of this. He isn't playing as well has he was back in 2014 yet he's winning more. It's bonkers. Maybe O'Sullivan's longevity will make it like it was for Steve Davis in the eighties? He's outlasted all his competition and will win more triple crown events with ease because they haven't got the all round game he has? That next player hasn't come along. Selby emerged and has been brushed aside (peaked). Trump isn't going to conquer the snooker world.
Agreed on all that. It's now clear Trump isn't going to reach the levels expected of him as a youngster. I think Selby has peaked but will maintain a very good level for a long while yet.
Ali is right here, and thats regardless of what I or anybody else thinks about each player. They shouldn't have to put up with pathetic 'fans' like that who don't know how to behave and show respect. As for the comments that have been made, I know there is a professional dislike between them both, but once again Ronnie has come out of it sounding really bad. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/snooker/67978830
