If he doesn’t get resigned next year it’s 18 months and next to no resale value, if he extends he has one year left so if we don’t sell him in summer again little resale value. In other words it is very similar to signing a 30 year old as there is potentially little resale value. The only thing in our favour is if we go up and convince him tosign for a few more years.
Presumably he wanted the short term deal, as he might not settle. If he doesn't, he could be off back to America in the summer, and we won't be commanding a huge fee for him. If he does, he could be offered, and subsequently sign an extension. Lets not forget, Connell signed a new deal in the summer despite having 2 years left on his existing one, and Styles the year before. Giving him an 18 month deal might have been the only way we could get him to sign.
People are actually taller in the morning. So maybe the previous article was written first thing in the morning, and the other was written at night.
That's how contracts work though mate. If he's rubbish, we don't add the extra year. If he does work, he's here, we'll add the year and then if we're promoted, hopefully he signs a new contract, if we're not, we may be better keeping him for that extra season ala Mowatt and losing on a free, or just selling him with a year left. Sometimes if we really want a player, we'll have to compromise, same as any club our stature. We've been stuck on long contracts with rubbish players, Iseka & Oulare naming but 2. It's a smart move and I can't wait to see him
I believe DC United hold his registration if he returns to America so not sure how that works with transfer fees. I’m hoping he is a success and does resign, I was just surprised it was so short initially.
You are right of course, it just surprised me as the chance of making a profit on this player is not in our favour/control. I think part of the point I was making was this is an example of where profit trading is not the be all and end all of this board despite the perception the owners have gained.
Yeah, I don't know how it works with the MLS either, but I know it's not as straight forward as it is here. Fingers crossed he is, but I do reckon the length of the deal could be down to him moving as far as he is. It's encouraging to hear that he thought the move was a no brainier after speaking to Daryl Dike though.
Luton already have an eye out for him. Let's hope he doesn't ever fly from Luton airport. They'll grab him.
Didn’t know that, makes sense he would speak with Dike though. Good that Dike thought well of the club like that.
Yeah, he said it in his first interview. He knew Daryl had been at the club, and they know each other from the USMNT.
Dike probably said, if you play well at Barnsley some bigger club will offer you £20k a week and off you skip to the bank… haha
Exciting prospect. Looks like a good signing. Loved watching that. Looks like he's a leader. Using words like "contextualise" might be a bit of a challenge for some of the existing group!! Great vid. Well done comms team.
