28 year old with only 6 month left on his contract, plenty of experience at this level and he's been a starter for Charlton this season.
On Charlton's forum, says us and Wigan are after him........ along with "Appleton out" and "send Tedic back"
We pull this off and we'll have gone from one of the weediest looking back lines into an absolute stone wall of a defence! Back 3 of MDG, Pines and Thomas. It's what we've lacked. A big physical presence at the back. Williams has been out-fought, out-jumped and out-muscled on many occasions with balls coming over to the back post this year. Can't see these lads getting knocked about too much!
Imagine Shepherd would be loaned out, I know Donny were mentioned. McCarthy and Cundy aren't even considered part of the squad these days.
Problem with McAtee is that one leg is slightly shorter than the other, meaning he does run round in circles. Hasn't scored all season as a result, his nearest attempt ended up in the directors box. Steer well clear.
Cundy is still injured. According to Collins, he is out with "glute issues" but he can't give any further details as it's "quite complex"
That does seem to be the case on any fans' forum (including this one) when a player is rumoured to be leaving. Suddenly he becomes a "waste of space", "overrated", "glad he's going", "we'll be stronger without him", "I never rated him", "I'll drive him there myself", etc., etc.
I personally wouldn't say he looked out of place, just that he didn't look like a natural goalscorer. He has always put the graft in, looked comfortable on the ball, ran at defenders and generally been a nuisance, he's just managed to find the target a bit more regularly since the start of November.
You're correct of course, but it's a little different when a player has just arrived and is getting up to speed, than when someone is still looking quite poor two years in. If the club want to sign him that's fine by me, but at this stage I can't see how he improves the squad. What Pines potentially offers is very clear. Will a bit-part player from a club below us in the same league represent an upgrade on Shepherd and McCart? I have my doubts.
Gab Sutton doesn't rate him either - he is someone that knows a lot about the EFL so is a pretty good judge of a player etc. at this level.
Thomas would be a strange signing. He’s 28 now and has never seemed to settle anywhere. Lots of moves, short term contracts etc. Certainly not one from the spreadsheet but he knows the division and played plenty of blokes footy, which is a rare treat for a reds signing these days. Seems to be a regular in the Charlton side, does that mean we’re actually gonna pay some proper money for someone? Or are they just wanting to get rid of a few with them seemingly splashing the cash this month?
