I’d be amazed if someone doesn’t make a bid for him before deadline day and then it’s up to the club to make a decision , personally I’d keep him at all costs and let him go for nowt in the summer.
They're not going to though, are they. Most we'll get offered is £500k and sadly, I think they'll take it. Undisclosed of course.
Can’t see anyone offering more than half a million for a 28 year old in his last year who still for me hasn’t proven himself in the championship. Also losing him would probably cost us our chance of promotion.
Especially if we can use it to sign McAtee permanently. A bit of a long shot I know, although I reckon we've got a good chance if we go up.
A lot of strikers only peak in their early 30's, especially ones who don't rely on lightning pace. I reckon Cole has got a few good years left in him yet, but I suspect he'll be one of those who'll always struggle above 3rd tier level. On the other hand, teams in relegation trouble in the Championship often make very odd signings in January as they gamble on staying up. We're in a pretty strong negotiating position with Cole, in that he's worth far more to us for the rest of the season than £500k. So in order to sign him, whoever wants him will have to pay daft money. Money which we can probably use to strengthen long term. Cole would be a loss, but we create enough chances to suggest we'd probably carry on scoring without him.
You say we’d carry on scoring without him….not seeing any of our other current forwards scoring the goals he is. Yes, McAtee might chip in with half a dozen before end of the season but I don’t see either Cosgrove or Watters doing similar. Not a chance….
Be a good topic that. Strikers who peaked in their early 30s. Jamie Vardy? Lee Trundle? Ian Wright? Any more?
Maybe give you them but is more rare than the normal for strikers to peak late in career......Vardy definitely exception to rule with pace he retained
Oh absolutely I agree with you - it just got me thinking of those that did peak after the age of 30. There aren't many.
Roy of the Rovers was still ace in his 30s lol. I'd be willing to let Dev go for nothing, and forget about the piddly half a million. As long as we could still get the best out of him, for the rest of the season. That's debatable though when a player tells us he's leaving, will he still give us 100% in the remaining games. Alex Mowatt did, and I'm sure we all appreciated him doing that.
Isnt promotion worth the mythical £8million quid. Bit of a gamble with only Cosgrove and Watters to replace him.
Let him leave on a free… we aren’t going to find a replacement good enough for the back end of the season.
