I think that's a really unfair comment. People are allowed to have a different view to the one you hold. People thinking that Collins is rubbish is just as valid an opinion as, I assume, your opinion that he's doing a good job. I personally think he's dour, uninspiring and his brand of football matches this quite closely. This year, League 1 is of a very poor standard and whilst we are where we are in the league, we could be higher and playing a much more attractive brand of football. I have softened somewhat on my view that he should be fired. If he can get us up, great. But I certainly wouldn't want him and his ethos in the Championship, there'd be some cricket scores coming.
I like De Gevigney and Shepherd, but they both made some horrible errors tonight. Shepherd is going to have a great career, but Collins has done absolutely the right thing in dipping him in and out of the side. Hopefully one of McCart or Pines will be available on Saturday.
I don’t think you can blame the manager for the first half. Typically we’ve been strongest in first halves, and the first 11 more or less picked itself again today so I don’t think it was down to team selection. The players let him down first half, and I imagine punches weren’t pulled at half time. There was definitely a reaction.
Holding the opinion that his football is unenjoyable to watch is absolutely valid. A lot of the time it is (although I personally think it's gradually improving). But him being rubbish? I'm not sure how valid an opinion that is, as it's objectively and verifiably untrue, as can be seen by our points total, league position and goal difference, relative to the other sides in the division.
That's how I see it. Haven't a clue how we've amassed so many points and so many victories with such an obvious lack of quality in so many positions. Well, I have. What we've got is being well managed. About time Collins was given some better tools to work with.
He does, but on the other hand he's very classy on the ball, shows excellent anticipation in winning it back high up the pitch to set up attacks, and has indeed contributed to goals doing this (think Exeter away).
Let me guess. You're also not "fooled" by Covid vaccines, the American election results, or the moon landings?
Well it’s Collins choosing the defence. We have seven CH. he could pick any of them. He could also pick Cadden. He could play Williams in the right position. He could attempt to coach them. Whatever he is doing in training is making the defence worse not better.
You think he’s flattering to deceive? I’ll wait to watch his post match interview but can’t imagine he was happy with the first half. 2 tactical subs at half time would indicate he could see a problem and worked to fix it. Looks like it worked, I’m even if it wasn’t pretty.
Do you not think he picked the best options for the back 3 today? Who would you have played instead? Based on Saturday’s performance I thought the back 3 picked itself. And Styles played both at wing back and centre midfield. Where is his best position? Surely it’s one or the other of those?
As does every single one if them. Some are more costly than others. They will learn and improve only by playing games. All of them. The teams we face are just as determined to win as we are, have just as good players as we do in this league, so to be in our current position is a credit to our manager and the attitude of the players.
He looks like he wants far too much time on the ball to me. But he’s also a player that would’ve benefited from having an experienced player alongside him. Instead he’s having to be the experienced one for Shepherd, having played less than 100 games himself.
