Everyone of us is entitled to an opinion,if my opinion isn’t the same as yours so be it but don’t telling folk they can’t have one and post it on here.
All opinions are valid tell me where I've said otherwise. All I've done is stated my view and the reasons behind it.
That’s the thing though you would have thought with our budget something must have been highlighted in his performance stats to warrant the punt. Not talking about goals ratio etc that we can see but the iota stuff that the clubs look at for individual performances etc. Worth also mentioning Cole’s stats showed nothing either prior to us taking him on at a similar age.
Yep, there was clearly something that got them interested but for the life of me I can't imagine what it was. He's never scored goals. At least Dallas had. As for Cole, he's doing better than I thought he was capable of but I think this is his level. I wouldn't want to lose him at this stage though.
I think the problem is Collins has a style of play probably one that worked in MLS of quick passing around the back, draw someone out of position and make a longer pass up. It doesn't work in this country, it's faster paced, we face an aggresive press. If this isn't his style he should have put his foot down because that is what is happening. We sit deep and play around our own half way line at best with the opposition all marking someone up so passes are usually to someone who is a good way back or someone who has two players already on them, they make a quick hurried pass and we lose possession. When this gets ignored and players instead make a 20/30 yard run into the opposition half, we look dangerous. Just like last night. Williams picks a ball up on the halfway line and instead of a square pass, he burst forward, runs 25 yards unopposed and plays a great ball to Cole who does the rest with a premier league standard finish. The other problems are that recently he doesn't seem to be starting his best side. eg last night with Cadden who was having their right back on toast when he came on and he makes some questionable substitutions, especially when we are one goal up. He gives the impression of negativity. I didn't get taking Cole off on saturday when we are only one goal up and have a corner with 4 minutes left on the clock. From the West Lower it didnt look like Cole got it either
I think you’ve nailed his ‘style’. It is clearly keep possession until an opportunity arises. Clearly our back line are not acquitted enough to play that well comfortably the other thing that I would question is are the players ignoring(using your example last night) or are the players just not spotting the opportunities early enough most of the time? If it’s not spotting then the question should be is that a coaching issue or a players issue.
Where are we in relation to last season? And with a much poorer defence? Some right bed wetters on here.
But surely Pines is an attempt to address that now also I think Mael was supposed to be an experience replacement - he has done ok but is no Solbauer
Of course everyone's entitled to an opinion, but when they're spouting absolute ***** and calling for the head coach to be sacked every time we go 1-0 behind then they're rightly going to get called out on it. What's your justification for sacking him? You're not enjoying performances on the pitch or the fact we're not winning every game at least 5-0? You do understand that he's got a better record than MLH had at the same time last season despite working with an inferior squad and quite honestly a shocking defence. I think Carlisle deserve a lot of credit for last night's first half performance, they caught us cold and it was never going to be an easy game despite some of the posters on here saying otherwise.
It's a results game - they always say. Collins is getting them. I'd be surprised if the Board/CEO set a much higher target than top half this season, given they sold the defence from under him.
Whilst I'm most definitely not a Collins out and think he's doing a half decent job for a young manager in difficult circumstances, it doesn't make him immune to constructive criticism and here lies the issue. There's no point throwing abuse about and knee jerk reactions every time we lose or draw a game, back the manager and judge him after 46 games. Whilst I agree with you, individual errors can't be accounted for, Neil Collins sets the team up, sets the formation, sets the shape, the style of play, picks the the team, briefs the players on the opposition and sets out what needs to be worked on during the week along with his staff. Let's try to be constructive about this, we are in a great position in what I believe is a dreadful league quality wise, but we can only beat what's put in front of us and so far we've put the points on the board and have a nice run going. But here's the other side of the debate. (1) it's awful to watch at times, but then again so is 75% of the division and teams other than pompey come to oakwell sit in deep and hit us over the top and down the channels (2) Defensively it's probably the worst back line I've ever witnessed if you can't see that Brian then God help you that's blind loyalty. (3) We keep persisting with a wing back at CB who naturally wants to bomb forwards as proved last night thankfully, but he's out muscled and is poor in the air, even when our best CB McCart is fit, Collins persists with Williams at CB. (4) Collins is persisting with a wing back formation which gives us no width when we're trying to play out as the wing backs aren't capable of doing the box to box efficiency the role requires, the clever teams play wide across the park pinning us in our half like Carlisle did meaning they can apply a compact press leaving us no out ball leading to loss of possession in dangerous areas. (5) He was a defender and is managing a team that can't defend, the points we've squandered from winning positions and our game management/mentality has been poor the substitutions to defend leads etc hasn't been good but credit to him last night and Saturday those changes did work. I know you always try to look at the positives Brian and back the club I don't know if you know someone or have been connected to the club as you seem knowledgeable and fair play to you, but there are times you must look at things that do need saying that are very poor and can't be defended just through loyalty. The oppososite to that to which I agree, I find it crazy that some fans have a meltdown when we conceed a goal I've done it, it's human instinct but it's about balance I don't want Collins out just want us to improve and go and win promotion some of it ain't rocket science its basic round holes for round pegs stuff
Its a weaker league than last year and over the course of this season (certainly at home) the performances not results haven’t been great. He’s not (Collins) convinced me that he’s making individuals and the team better. He’s a lucky so and so.
Yes, and it's good to see that we're looking to address the defence, and Pines certainly looks like he'll add the physicality that Collins has asked for. My view in the summer was that we would never get anybody in that is as good as Mads (was the best centre back in League 1 by a distance last year imo), so we needed to get somebody in that could help improve the others around him by adding some organisation and experience. Likely somebody on their way down the leagues to be honest. Was always going to be a big ask for Mael. As for the thread title. Never thought I'd see the day when so many wanted the coach out, with us sat in the top 6. Part of me thinks it might've been the same if Ismael had been in charge while fans were in stadiums.
If you'd like me to troll through previous posts of your support of our defense it's not a problem. P.S I wasn't digging you out on my initial post I said I agreed with you in part my only observation was that you seem to defend the indefensible at times and that's fine that's your take but it did lead me to wonder and make the point are you in someway connected to the club?
