For years I have been trying to find pics of our game at Oxford - day of the Bradford fire. I know I was sat a few rows behind Robert Maxwell & family and was introduced to them after. Jim Smith was rat-ar5ed and was prancing about with Maxwells black gloves. I went out with the team at night - Billy Hamilton and John Aldridge steaming (far from the only two). So somewhere, behind Clan Maxwell is a 19yo me ......... wish I'd have chatted her up and kept her on the straight and narrow (like wot I am guv).
I was on the Cookoo Lane end. Maxwell wobbled onto the pitch at the end like a jelly or a poorly constructed monster from Dr. Who. Some of the coaches from Barnsley arrived late. I think we were 3 down before they got into the ground. I was also there when we won promotion to the Premier League. This time I was in with the Oxford Fans between the London Road and Osler Road Stands.
Is this the first time for several years that someone's asked for help to find that photo with Ghislaine Maxwell?... most people are trying to delete them.. Prince Andrew for example.
My mother in law said much worse to mi missus when we were courting. What tha doing wi him, he's an ugly bugger. (Toned that down lol.) Since then I allus ask mi missus what attracted me to her. Her answer. "Nowt really (can't brag in that department either lol.) I took pity on thi" . My reply to her question on the same subject. "Yer tits"
We went down there in the car. Barnsley put in a truly pathetic performance and we were 4-0 down at half time. However, when we got back to the car and switched the radio on, our anger at our display disappeared. The news was coming through of the fire at Bradford and it's consequences put everything into perspective. Truth be told, I was ashamed & embarrassed of my attitude when hearing of people losing their lives in such a horrible manner at Valley Parade.
