Dont know if your old enough but back in 80s we had a back guy called Winston Campbell, the played at same time as Kenny burns who played at the back and he used to send him on a run 9course of ten and our own crowd used to make monkey noises, you had to be there to think wat they doing that for I think it was about 85.ot was normal seriously, just wrong
Barnsley vs Villa in the FA Cup in 94/95 and there were loads of monkey chants and a banana thrown from the East Stand.
Why we going back to Oakwell in the 80s/90s? In the last 12 months the pigs have racially abused their own manager/racially abused an opponent and goaded away fans about a young victim of cancer. They're vile and it's now coming to the public's attention.
Because if we put the silly local rivalry aside, Wednesday fans are ordinary people from South Yorkshire, just like we are. And the vast vast majority of them would think this is vile, just like we do. But they have morons wearing their colours, just like we do. It's not a case of one club has a problem and another one doesn't. The problem is within society. Its still exists and has never gone away. Although how on earth someone thinks they are superior to someone else based on nothing other than the colour of their skin bends my brain. Its takes a special amount of stupidity to have those thoughts.
I'll call out racism and don't need permission from anyone else to do so. Part of Crystal's family have shown themselves to be racist a few years ago and we've had nothing to do with them since. So I'll happily call out Sheffield Wednesday racists out even though we have some of the same scumbags amongst our fanbase.
Think Bury recently been forced to play two home games behind closed doors because of similar to the Wednesday incidents. Bury FC ordered to play games behind closed doors after 'offensive comments' made by fans - Manchester Evening News
Don’t think we can criticise. I regularly hear disgusting racist comments at Oakwell. Better than it used to be, but many Barnsley fans also are still very much behind the times.
Seems they are singled out. I agree with the statement put out by the club. Punishing the innocent. 3,800 + at the game cos of 2 idiots. It doesnt state what the abuse was.
It's not in the article but I think I've read elsewhere that one was racist in nature and the other ableist (sic) - similar to the (last) two Wednesday incidents if I recall correctly.
east Stamd upper racists making monkey noises and constantly abusing black players a couple of years ago. Complained to the stewards they did nowt so me and my brother sorted it. Let’s not pretend it’s not still a problem.
I like a bit of goading from an opposition player. I'd like a lot of goading even more. Makes for a passionate game. I watched the Wednesday game. I saw Palmer goading them. It was inevitable what would happen. It would have happened at Oakwell too. Pond life. Thankfully the last laugh was to be found in the result. Cheered me up too.
Of course we can criticise, that’s my whole point. So because people claim they still hear it at Oakwell, we are not allowed to criticise and/or call it out. I still say it is absolutely nowhere near what is was like, (and just once is too many) I hear or see nothing of a racist manner where I sit in ES Lower
