Went today with the wife as we thought the weather would stop us doing anything else outdoorsy today. We have been a few times recently and seen all the ones I def wanted to see, so we chose to see "The End We Start From". Do yourself a favour - don't bother. Quite possibly the worst film I have ever watched. 2 hours of my life I'll never get back. Wished we had dragged the grandkids along and watched Wonka.
Wife suggested we watch Saltburn last night , I think she thought it was a Downton Abbey type film …. It’s not !!!!

I’m going to see The End We Start From tomorrow afternoon and I’m looking forward to it. I go 2-4 times per week and see most films that they show. Will hopefully see One Life on Tuesday. I say hopefully, as I’ve booked it twice already, but on both times haven’t felt well, so missed it. Of the films that are still showing there, Godzilla Minus One is my favourite. Knocks spots off the lame American Godzilla films. Poor Things is also excellent, but not for the faint hearted. Don’t go with the vicar! Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo were brilliant and put everything into their performances. Could/should be the most bizarre performances to ever pick up Oscars. Good luck to them finding a clip suitable to show at the ceremony! Anyone But You is rubbish. I got suckered into seeing it by reviews that said it’s lifted up above the average rom-com fare by the lead performances. It isn’t. And the only time Sydney Sweeney doesn’t have her boobs hanging out is when they are actually out. I guess some may see that as a selling point! Oppenheimer is very good, although I think the film is way overpraised. Anyone saying it’s Nolan’s masterpiece can’t have seen The Dark Knight or Inception! The performances are great though, and Cillian Murphy is good value for all the awards he’s going to win. Priscilla is an odd film. I’m an Elvis fan, so I’m fully aware of the awkward (to say the least!) age difference when they met, and the film is very uncomfortable at the beginning, where it basically looks like a film about grooming. Cailee Spaeny is great in the lead role though, and Jacob Elordi does a good Elvis, although he was never gonna top Austin Butler. Wonka’s quite good. It’s fun playing spot the British comedy actor and Hugh Grant steals every scene he’s in, just like he did in the brilliant Paddington 2. If your grandkids haven’t seen the Paddington films I’d suggest you make them your next purchases, buy a big bag of popcorn and settle down with the grandkids to watch them both. The first one is excellent and the second one even better, thanks in no small part to Hugh Grant giving the best performance of his career. The bad reviews, and the fact that it’s only ever an evening showing and I prefer to go to the cinema in the afternoon, has put me off Night Swim, whilst Jason Statham is enough to put me off the Beekeeper. And despite being a geek for all things Batman, I really didn’t want to spend 2 hours watching the CGI antics of his watery mate Aquaman, and I was glad my son didn’t fancy it, or I’d have had to go. I’m getting a little bored with all the superhero films that look like video games. I am looking forward to the third Deadpool film though, as well as Joker 2, even if it is a musical. And I’m really hoping that the brilliant Barry Keoghan (whose old chap flapping about as he danced round a mansion in the nip has done even more for wonderful Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s career than her kitchen discos!) will have more time in the sequel to The Batman, cos the deleted scene of him playing the Joker was brill. It must be so difficult following in the footsteps of Heath Ledger (although didn’t we say the same about Jack Nicholson?), but Keoghan’s take in that scene has me wanting more.
One Life is superb. The End We Start From, on the other hand, I honestly found to be unutterably boring. It might just be me, because all the reviews on it are good, but I just didn't get it. And it's got more holes in it than a sailor's vest. I quite enjoyed Anyone But You. Agree with you about Oppenheimer and Priscilla.
That’s just to watch it over a 2 day period before it deletes. I suppose you could justify the cost if you work out how much it’d cost if you took kids or grandkids to Cineworld. You can get cheaper pick n mix for home viewing as well
No, I wouldn’t pay that much…or anything in fact. It isn’t very good and is only watchable when Josephine (played by the lass who played Princess Margaret from the first couple of series of The Crown) is on screen, but even then Phoenix manages to spoil a couple of those scenes with his weird mating noises! The End That We Start From was okay, but a tad concerning, as who knows what shape the world is going to be in for my kids in 30 years time.It’s quite possible that they are going to have to live through society breaking down for one reason or another, as our leaders continue to destroy the planet slowly…or quickly. It was one of those films you just had to enjoy what you were watching though, cos if you thought about it too much it stopped making sense. Will try to fit One Life in this afternoon, in between trips to see the snooker.
