Be interesting to see how the council plan to invest money back into the club. I’m assuming there will be a 3 or 5 or 10 year plan that will be a matter of public record?

With local authority finances at rock bottom and loads of councils effectively going bankrupt I'm not sure what Barnsley MBC can bring to the table. Plenty of people, some on this forum, saying the Council have overspent on the bridge and that the town didn't need anything as extravagant as that. With home crowds of 11,000, some of whom live outside the Borough, I wouldn't like to be a Barnsley Councillor justifying cutting spending on services at the same time as spending money on Oakwell.

Cost neutral over life if lease....

I'm guessing some capital outlay by the council maybe and we pay it back in the lease/rent payments over a longer period?

It's the only thing I can think of

    I agree.

If they’re reinvesting what they make on it (I.e putting the rent back into it) it’s not a massive amount is it. But I imagine the new lease also allows the club to invest into it as well now.

Again, in current economic times, I can’t see us doing too much work on the infrastructure side, unless we’re cemented in the Championship.

    Good news none-the-less.

So now the club owns none of the ground. Is the Cryne's 20 per cent stake just on the playing side?

Presumably, the buyout of the ground and subsequent investment in Oakwell will be financed by some sort of loan deal over 30 years and paid for by an increase in rent payable by BFC rather than directly from council coffers.
