I'd guess we want him off the wage bill.

    Loan before buying is normal.

It’s quicker to sort and can help one or both clubs meet financial restrictions in the short term.

Takes money off the wage bill though, and I'd assume he's one of our higher earners. If it allows us to bring in a player on load in another position that we need more, I can see the sense in a loan deal for Styles.

500k, and retain an interest would be about right. If he's half the player he should be we might make some more money down the road.

Is it. How many players recently have we loaned and manage to keep....well, other than watters

I'd say no loans any more for styles. Put up or shut up

They are three different options though: Loan, Loan with an Option to buy, and a Loan with an Obligation to buy.

If its an obligation to buy , it should only be for cash none of this HP rubbish, if they can't afford him they shouldn't get him end of!

I don't really understand this obligation to buy thing. Realistically it's only possible if styles agrees and signs a long term contract with Sunderland now because otherwise they could offer styles 50p a week in the summer and he's going nowhere or he could demand 5 million pounds a week in the summer and Sunderland are forced to pay it because they're obligated to sign him.
Obviously that's never happening so an obligation to buy can only be enforceable if the club have agreed a few and the player has agreed and signed a contract and if that's the case then what is the point of the loan part?

I’m guessing the contracts get signed with an obligation to buy, so it’s just a case of a permanent transfer of the players registration when the next window opens

But again why would that benefit anyone unless it was a last minute deal done at 10pm on 31st of January

Loan before buy is normal. The agreement is in place at the start - otherwise it’s a normal loan……

Raya to Arsenal was the biggest this summer - done for the sake of speed.

If they’re not paying the full release clause. It’s a no from me.

Have I been impressed this season by him? Largely, no. Moments of quality but few and far between. But imagine he plays a blinder in one of the Euro matches this summer. We’ll look like we’ve had our pants well and truly pulled down if we flog him for 6 figures.

Don’t mind the loan if his wages are covered in full. But surely you sweat your assets?

I like him, but I think it's fair to say that his time here is coming to an end. Token payment and a decent sell-on would do it for me.

Agree. You’d think if he were to leave now they could sort it out as a permanent deal

Surely any move should be a sale and not a loan, and, if he goes, we need a replacement LWB. I'm happy with Cadden as first choice, but who else have we got, if he is injured or suspended?

It would be typical that we buy a centre back so Williams can play at RWB then our LwB gets injured so we have to play him there and leave O’Keeffe on the right.

But that's all what ifs, he could go and have a awful time in the euros or even get injured. He's 24 in a march it's time he started influencing domestic games more. I do think watch Hungary so can't comment if he influences there games but I'd take 6 figures and a sell on and he will most likely be a high earner here if not the highest.
