I would argue though that the majority of costs were non-refundable even if the game was called off earlier. Train tickets, hotels etc. won’t be refundable when it’s so close to the time. You’ll save people some time and some fuel for those driving (although driving is also the easiest to turn back and come home if it’s called off) but the majority of people won’t save any money. It’s a difficult situation but i still believe they should try and play games if there’s a chance of it happening. The alternative if they took Dan Jarvis’ advice could realistically see 3 games a week later on in the season for teams if they’re too forceful.
The one thing no one, I think has mentioned, (apologies if I'm wrong), is what guidance & training is given to referees regarding pitch inspections? Yes, they have to judge in their mind if the pitch may be playable. Is there any consideration of travelling fans taken into this & should there be? I've no idea, but it is worth considering, before criticising a ref, if he has only one remit. I'm not a fan of Jarvis per se, but his intervention might possibly cause the EFL to give this some thought. The idea all EFL clubs should have undersoil heating is just not doable. I doubt the expense would keep more that half a dozen games from being cancelled each season, at great cost to small clubs with limited revenue streams. There are other considerations regarding the safety of fans on concourses, etc that cause games to be called off, when under soil heating means the pitch itself is playable. I'm sure there are people on here who could give clarity on my point?
Not true. LNER tkts (even advance ones) are changeable for a £10 admin fee. We could have moved our tickets and used to get to Stevenage and back for the Charlton game. Then just bought tkts from Stevenage-Charlton. As it is we wasted £90 for the two of us to get there Sat. Again, a lot of hotel bookings are cancellable by noon on the day without charge. It's an expensive postponement at 1pm......
I've not offered an opinion either way. But a move to earlier postponements is exactly about travelling fans. I'm always happy anyway. Whatever, meh.
Yep. Its completely unworkable unless we want games called off left right and centre in case there's a 1% chance of it being called off on the day.
Well there is plenty who I believe go into it for the right reasons. Sadly many of them get corrupted along the way. There is examples of MP’s who clearly represent their constituents to the best of their ability and don’t change their principles though. I’m not naming names, the abuse I’d get would be endless. But they do exist. It’s their job so I suppose by definition a career. But that’s too black and white for my liking.
