We all had dreams of playing professional football. Scoring in front of the Ponty end. Scoring the winning goal in a FA Cup final. Playing for England. Obviously we didn't have the talent to do so, like the 1000's of players every year who are released by clubs as they're not good enough. Only a small percentage have the skills and talent to make it as a professional. For professional players, not just at our club, but everywhere, who just go through the motions putting as little effort in as they can get away with it's disgraceful.
Are they going through the motions or just being cancelled out by opposing players that are equally good or better?
Lack of effort is an all too easy, even lazy way to analyse a player’s performance. I notice this a lot with people who seem to have an agenda against player/s. Woodrow was often accused of it , and it was total ******. Being out of sort’ going through a bad spell, or even simply not being good enough does not equate to lack of effort. For the record from what I’ve seen of Watters and O’Keef so far, I’ve been mainly disappointed with, but I have to say I don’t see a lack of effort.
I definitely see a lack of effort from watters and Russell but it's not something I've ever seen from O'Keefe, just a lack of quality.
What quantities lack of effort? First half Watters was closing the keeper down every time then tracking back. Problem was he literally had 0 service what soever. Not really sure what else he could have done that half. His game is completely different to Cosgrove, just like Coles is different to Cosgroves
With the very rare exception of the most talented players, the amount of effort and dedication it takes to become a pro at any level is beyond anything most of us can imagine. So the vast, vast majority of pros are already predisposed to years of hard graft. To then not put the same effort in for 90 minutes a week would be odd to say the least.
It is no good, keep chucking Watters under the bus,its the conceding goals week in week out at Oakwell which is the problem. I can recall 2 clean sheets at home in the league. This really needs addressing.
Russell needs game time with good players around him. Listening to the town fans he was instrumental in their play off achievement.
Correct! The effort may be misdirected and a lack of quality may accentuate the perception but in these times of data analytics, no player can get away with lack of effort.
He needs a couple of players either side to do all of his running for him. He has good technical ability but never breaks sweat. He jogs through the whole game and rarely runs. With Phillips and OKeefe alongside him on Saturday, it was destined to fail.
I agree. In a similar vein, I'd also add that a board of directors are often accused of a lack of ambition too when things aren't going exactly how the fans want it to.
I can understand why people would accuse Watters and Russell of lacking effort. One moves at the pace of a glacier, and the other is never found within 10 yards of the ball.
Russell does not know what he is supposed to be doing, totally useless and i believe Connell should be captain
Not O'Keefe lack of effort. Just not good enough. I've never known a wingback turn and go backwards as much as he does.
I've no agenda against certain players, just call it as it is. One of ex workmates always came to me to ask how we'd played because 'Daz I know you don't sugar coat it'. If we play well I will give them praise. If we play rubbish I will say so.
I’m not getting lack of effort vibes from O Keefe, or Watters. Lack of effectiveness yes, lack of confidence absolutely…. but I think lack of effort is a huge insult to both of them, and a really lazy (ironically) comment from fans wishing to criticise players. For lack of effort see Deon Burton, Emanuel Frimpong.
