I’d start with Watters over Cole. With a run of games we’ll see a different player think he’s capable of 20 in league one. Think Cole had a decent season by his standards and don’t see him as a 20 goal a season striker. Coles not a bad player to bring off the bench to maintain the press. Looking at Watters history he needs a solid season of starting 30+ league games in a season.
I thought he ran himself into the ground most games and became a genuine poacher, something we’ve lacked for a good few years. It’s a long season so it’s good that we have say 4 strikers who are relatively interchangeable and won’t particularly diminish the way we’re trying to play. Plenty to be positive about at that end of the pitch.
Most of those minutes from the bench and with little in terms of consistent team make up around him. I'll judge him over a season where he gets a reasonable run personally.
He hasn't scored many at higher levels and hasn't shown anything in a reds shirt. He another well out of his depth.
He's looked awful. Off the pace, lightweight, poor touch.....just really poor. Hopefully he comes good but just can't see it happening. Not sure how/where we can offload him either.
TBF his confidence looks destroyed to the point he can't be bothered, defo would have be looking to get him out on a loan deal and bring in a loan, ideally someone a bit different I think Cole, McCatee, Cosgrove, Jalo and Marsh more than enough.
Look, I don't want to make assumptions about someones mental health, but suffice to say Watters doesn't look confident. Clearly he's not in a good place and needs to get that sorted before he can ever hope to show his potential. It would be great if fans would get off his back and give him space, but appreciate that's difficult when he's selected and doesn't deliver. Could do with some time off to get himself straight.
That's some assumption, I just don't think he's a very good footballer. Very rarely showed anything last season so whoever had the idea to bring him back permanently on a 3 year deal wants their heads testing.
I still can't get my head around who saw sufficient qualities in this player during last season's loan spell to offer him a 3 year contract. Perhaps one of Khaled's parting shots whilst he was planning his escape?! His sending off at home to Port Vale was a disgrace and I'd have packed him off back down to Cardiff straight after that game.
It would be nice to know exactly WHO said “go and sign that big lad at Cardiff that we had last season”. Whoever it was should not be involved in recruiting footballers, ever.
Marsh is nowhere near good enough and I’m not sure Jalo is yet either. That only leaves Cole, McAtee and Cosgrove. If Watters was to go out on loan (doubt he will) we’d defo need one in.
