    They are not even Turkish.

I have a friend who is Turkish, he says they are rather from Iraq or Iran & they really annoy the Turkish people. He says going to one of them is nothing at all like a proper Turkish shave or hair cut.

A think majority of these shops are a front and money laundering for illicit activities!!!

Your not telling me that there’s been a massive uptake in folk wanting there barnets trimming…….

Ita blatantly obvious what’s going on

Headingley is just the same. We are awaiting the biggest Greggs in national history. We have at least 15 barbers shops, a few nail bars, loads of coffee shops. 2 opticians & about 8 pubs. Some decent restaurants / food places too. One record shop, owned by Jon Moss, the referee. Not the best, but it's OK & he's a nice chap, Sunderland fan. About 5 charity shops. Most really off the wall indie shops don't last long, as rents are massive here. I think Barnsley is actually pretty amazing, since the works have been done. You are only going to get businesses that can pay the rent at the end of the day. It is a hard world out there.

But then why wouldn't they open shops in our of town areas where the rent is lower?
And I know what you're saying about the amount but I don't think there's really any more than there's ever been, it's just that we pay more attention. I used to live in a smallish village and it had 3 hair dressers in it, maybe even 4 actually.
Where I live now there are about 5. All been here a long time and all genuine businesses.

I've never been to one, but don't they burn your ear and nose hair off?

In Wath there's 2 Turkish Barbers and 3 "Traditional" Hair Dressers where old grannies go to have their hair curled.

My Mum has her hair cut in one of these "establishments" once a month and get this - she even PAYS CASH! And what's more, the owner drives a RANGE ROVER. Now I'm not saying that it's a front for something, but it looks fishy to me.

Not many people comment on this though - can't think why.

Just so we're clear. If immigrants don't work, then that's bad. And if immigrants work, thats also bad.

I go to the Turkish Barbers on Sheffield Road/Cemetery Road Junction (they make us Taffs welcome!) - excellent Barbers and I pay cash - very happy with them - couldn't give a flying fk if they drive a Jag or arrive to work on the 65 bus.

Sorry ST but I totally disagree!!! If you drive down Wombwell high street there’s ably least 6, there’s probably a dozen in Barnsley……..you’re not telling me they all can keep afloat with that amount of competition?

100% bang on, up there with some car washes.
There's a coffee shop not too far from me must have spent a fortune doing it up, never seen it open once, the word Cartel features in the business name says it all really.

Can't speak for the town itself in numbers as it's not summat I generally take note of. But when I grew up in Jump. 2 barbers and a hairdressers. All within their homes.
"Short back and sides please Mr Brough." :)
    Now use one in market.

But what I mean is haven't they always been there and we just haven't really noticed them? I'd never considered the amount where I live and lived to be a lot until I thought about them just then

In a busy town centre it's easier to explain away big takings.

So you agree there seems way too many then?

I reckon these ‘businesses’ are paying ample amounts of cooperation tax and essentially there’s a blind eye turned

I agree that there seems to be a lot of hairdressers around but that there always has been so it must just be how many is required.

Don't forget there's a quarter of a million people in Barnsley. That's a lot of haircuts every few weeks
