Surprise surprise. Our scattergun recruitment has left us with a top heavy squad and wage bill so we miss out on quality signings like this. Things have to change moving forwards.
Let’s be realistic here, we might have shown interest, which is good in the first place, but it’s obvious we were never going to secure this signing with other clubs interested, we just won’t pay the going rate, always looking to go down the cheap route.
The report reads more like the player wanting to explore his options in the summer, than us being cheap. Blackpool are taking him on loan, while we made an offer for a permanent transfer with a fee based on add ons. He'll go on loan till the end of the season then be a free agent in the summer.
Surely we could have a go at getting him on loan if that’s the case. He would be better off in our shop window than Blackpools given likelihood of play offs and presumably closer to home really disappointing if we miss out on this one
What if he can't get in our shop window when Kane and Connell are fit? He might have a better chance of a game for the rest of the season at Blackpool, and he's leaving Wednesday to play.
Again with Byers, I assume he was in Wednesday's midfield last season. Their midfield wasn't as good as ours. If Kane, Connell and Phillips are fit he doesn't get in our side. Agreed the next best is Russell who seems hit and miss but I wouldn't want to be spending too much on someone who is just going to plug the odd injury gap. Plus I'm sure he'll have looked at our midfield and Blackpool's and thought he's got a much better chance of starting for them.
I honestly thought we were going to splash the cash in this transfer window after selling our captain and vice captain. Silly me.
