So you have decided that a defender you've never seen play, can't possibly be better than one you've seen 5 times?
Because he'd clearly got potential? "Not quite ready now" doesn't mean "will never be ready". We've seen plenty of players who looked pretty out of their depth at first, only to go on and have sparkling careers at Oakwell or elsewhere. Lopata has looked miles better than Mads did when he first arrived, admittedly in a lower league, but still.
Not sure he’s our best defender but deffo summet about him to let him go out on loan. Better than Shepherd and a better centre half than Williams.
Same people who moan that we never pick up good youngsters like Toney or Watkins etc. Every transfer is a risk, especially when buying potential.
It's already been said that the reason Williams is playing over him is for his pace though. Lopata at the side of MDG is too slow for how we want to play with wing backs
What you mean? If the recruitment wasn’t ****, why are we playing the best right back in the league at centre half, mate?
He would have been playing wing back if we hadn't sold Kitching at the last minute. Are you saying we shouldn't have accepted 5 million for Kitching? Because there's a large hole in our finances that suggests we needed to.
Because we got paid over the odds for Kitching, Nareev explained that turning that money down would be ridiculous, and it would have been, we had every intention to keep him here. Unfortunately for us, it was last minute. We've now amended that by bringing in Pines & Earl. Hindsight is a great thing mate, everyone was buzzing with Cosgrove coming in, and Russell previous to that. They haven't worked out yet, but 99% of the fan base were very happy. MDG, Roberts & McAtee all good signings too
If anyone thinks Kitching wasn’t leaving last summer until the last day, they need their head checking. Was happening as soon as he got a sulk on when he got his head turned against Oxford.
And had we sold him on the cheap when that happened, fans would be raging at the club. We rightly held out for what we felt he was worth and he left.
No he wouldn’t. If we hadn’t sold Kitching, we wouldn’t have signed McCart in a rush; Williams would have still been playing right centre back with Kitching on the left, as had been happening up to that point.
I always give a player chance. But lets face it collins hasn't given lopata a chance since his injury and the lad was doing great before
Not saying that, I’m saying we had enough prep to bring in his replacement and not have to play the best full back in the league at centre half. I’m sorry but the recruitment has been poor in terms of what we needed. I’m a big fan of McCart as his replacement but we haven’t strengthened much more around the pitch compared to last season and what we needed. I’m not saying we were gonna get a player as good as Andersen, Kitching and Bobby Thomas but at least give us a chance.
