If I thought I was qualified, and the candidate they brought in didn't look to have more experience than me on paper then yeah, I'd 100% be looking. Loyalty goes two ways.
I would like to know if true, who has appointed this guy, and what relevant experience and qualifications do they have to do so? Also who has given them the authority to appoint? On the surface It seems yet another non football appointment when we need someone who can consider other aspects, like player personality, charisma, communication skills and wether they are team players etc. We seem to be obsessed with data analytics when our game isn't just about data. They are trying to apply too many rules to our football that aren't transferable from American sports. There are other aspects to football and our club that our owners seem to marginalise, including building loyalty and wanting to be part of a successfull (on the pitch) sports club.
As a scout & analyst. No on the ground experience. All advisory. No link or knowledge of the club (on paper). I always remember Don Rowing saying to me that running the academy was a good starting point for running the club. Complex demands. Stakeholder management. Budget and expected outcomes. Recruitment etc etc. Sounds like Bobby has more experience of running a sporting organisation than this fella and if I was him I'd be very disappointed.
Sorry I'm late to the party, but I've just got up to watch the AFC Asian Cup Semi Final. Come on you Aussies!!! I'd also just like to add to the furor and pile on the new guy, even though he's not been confirmed, hasn't arrived yet, not done a single day's work and I know SFA about him.
Guys This “news” appeared seven hours ago on some obscure website Has the club confirmed it - NO Have the National news media reported it - NO Has any local news media reported it - NO Chronicle on line reporting the Conor Grant signing but not this story Why? Because it’s a load of nonsense
I wouldnt let Don Rowing near a football club for reasons well known. His reasoning is sound. But beyond that. We could all be barking up the wrong tree 2 adverts were posted for 2 different roles last yr . One for a Data scientist. (This guy would fit the bill on his cv). Which either was filled/not filled or become vacant again. The other being Director of football. Bobby definitely fills most of those requirements I admit. But not the one being talked about. It's a strange news item if fake. What would be the purpose.
Right, so we're creating a new position of Sporting Director, have we anyone at the club who can do this in the interim until we fill the position permanently? What about Bobby Hassell? OK, so that's the type of candidate we're looking for, ex-players? Yes, but also data analysts. Ex professional footballers and/or data analysts? Yes, and scuba divers.
If we get Matty Appleby on a maths & data science crash course, could he meet your criteria for the job @Jay ?
Bobby has a Masters Degree in Sporting Directorship. Perhaps he just did it for the fun of it. This new bloke seems to have no experience of football club involvement beyond analytics. Bobby has decades of involvement with BFC and the ins and outs of all aspects of the club, the staff and the structures. This new bloke has none. Bobby will know all the players who might be targets for us. This new bloke will know about a logarithm that applies to these players. Our club has in recent times tended towards being regarded (unsuccessfully) as a spreadsheet experiment for owner/investors to try and make a profit. This latest appointment on the face of it continues the trend.
