An absolutely terrible tragedy and condolances to the bereaved families. My father was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and was at one point sectioned in a Mental Hospital. I hope Calcone is properly assessed and properly treated and when deemed not to be a danger to the public released and supported back into his community.
I think the second part of that last sentence is gonna need to stand up to a hell of a lot of scrutiny, if the time ever comes.
6 months ago my wife was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. Over the last 3 years she has had 2 major episodes of psychosis. While she wasn't especially violent either time she was sectioned on both occasions. This individual will likely be detained in a secure hospital setting for the rest of their life. I'm not sure what more could reasonably be done. Before living through the last few years I would have shared the same ignorance on mental health issues.
Holiday camp is it? Would be odd seen as standard hospitals for mental health issues aren't exactly the most comfortable places to be.
Let's be honest, we all know why this thread has been created - so the OP and a few like minded posters can vent at them darkies. The Bibby Stockholm Thread proved that - so does this. This crime is utterly horrific, and I can't imagine what the victims and their families have been through.
2 years long enough? Apparently so. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...burke-schizophrenic-freed-hospital-order.html
interestingly my partner worked for 6 months in Wakey. She changed jobs because she felt more like a prison warden than a nurse and that she was guarding patients not treating them. Don’t necessarily think it’s ’better’ or ‘worse’ but in essence you are dealing with people not mentally well enough to operate inside the prison system.
My cousin works at Rampton. Is involved in the care of Beverley Allitt. She’s been trying to prove she’s sane and be transferred to a prison. For better living conditions, as well as to try and qualify for parole. Rampton is not an easy ride and better than prison for its ‘patients’. It really isn’t. I can’t imagine any similar max security hospital would be.
There’s no consequence even when they go and commit crime while in secure hospitals - police won’t prosecute them even if they assault staff or other patience “because they’re in a mental hospital”
I can only imagine you have never personally experienced mental health issues or seen them up close in a friend or loved one. I’d rather assume you’re merely ignorant than inhumane.
Secure mental health hospitals are prisons so the options to punish further are limited but they do happen. A serious assault on a staff member was prosecuted while the missis worked in one.
