    Some could argue from a club perspective the Academy role is more important because the more players come through into the first team should mean a better team, less pressure to buy ‘punts’ and more confidence to ratch up the data to a higher standard player coming in.

    I was negative about this role a couple of days ago. I didn't realise that we were close to announcing an appointment. This is the realm of the directors and execs and it's not my place to be negative about their decisions when I don't understand what it is in the first place...

    The data is obviously very important, not arguing against that, but when you look at the wider picture, we don’t use it as well as others. We’re still in League 1 and we operate at a loss.

    Anyone remember the first season we started using stats to find players? I seem to recall Hourihane was found this way, but I might be wrong and it might be before or after him?

    Yeah it was that season. We signed Winnall too. We had more success early on with it than we do now. I think other teams have caught up.
