His appendix operation gave them the chance to have a proper look at him. It's like we were selling him on eBay, sight unseen, but now they've had the once over they've said, "Hang on a minute, you were having our pants down, we're not paying that!"
I don’t think they can sign him due to financial fair play, that’s probably why it’s on loan and then permanent. Apparently they were trying to ship players out to make the deal.
Ever since he went to Millwall, complete bottle job. Sunderland will stick him in the team and realise he has completely peaked. Good L2 player, On off L1 player. Real shame but far better out there. Good luck to him though.
Well in my opinion he did. Comes across as someone who's never wanted to be at the club paying him a handsome wage, who's quite happy to say that Barnsley aren't good enough for someone with the amazing skill and work rate that he's got and that for 2 years he's been trying to leave. His ego and sense of ability are at complete odds with the performances he's ever put out on a football pitch. If he fails at Sunderland like he has everywhere else it could very well be career over for him
Comes across as a player who has 18 international caps, who has qualified for the European Championships and is confident in his capabilities. If our buy out clause was 2 million and Sunderland were risking FFP issues then can see why it will be an initial loan. It also appears they have had a long standing interest in him. Makes sense for a player whose head has been turned to a move to a big club, to want to make it happen. It's called ambition. Good luck to him as I want the club to get a decent transfer fee in the summer for him.
I think he’s taken quite a bit of stick on here this season and some of it hasn’t been warranted, in my opinion. I’m sure we all wish that he does well and that Sunderland turn it into a permanent deal. Be good for all parties if he finds a new permanent home and we bring in some funds.
Imho I believe both parties wanted him to move on (our club and Styles). I rate him as a championship player, and good attributes for that league. I am stunned he hasn't ripped up this league, with us this term but that's maybe because between him and his agent, he has been looking for a move. He definitely has the attributes to make the step up but for us this season he was a massive disappointment. One of my best mates is a massive mackam (lives in Oz now) and asked me about him and all I could say was the above....they should have a good champ ready player but he was a bit hot and cold. I can see him signing for the black cars but I think we may have to rip up the £2 million release clause and accept maybe half as much or a bit less.
I would expect the 2 million clause to be met .The board have shown resilience when clubs make offers on our players. The Kitching deal being a good example.
Softy ... I had two legs amputated and still turned out for 5 a side the week after. Box to box engine powerhouse.
