Imagine being a Charlton fan, having to suffer Appleton, feeling a brief moment of hope when he gets sacked and then hearing you're about to appoint Nathan Jones.
I'm quietly watching Charlton tbf...they have a front two of May and Ladapo so should be more than ok for goals in this league. Nathan Jones should be very good too.
They're not enamoured with Ladapo....... "Looks shot to pieces. Easy to see why Ipswich didn’t want him. Palpably unfit. Why is he even playing ? Poor loan"
Nathan Jones is twice the manager Appleton is, I have no idea how Appleton is still getting jobs. Has he ever got a team promoted?
Don't think so Helen. He took over from Danny Cowley when he left for Huddersfield. Cowley had got Lincoln promoted from Conference to L1 over 3 seasons
Nathan Jones only ever succeeded at Luton, didn't last 2 minutes at Stoke or Southampton and proved himself to be a loon with his best manager in Europe comments. History of saying poor results is down to his players cos he's proved his coaching works.
His first words on being appointed were to let everyone know he'd had many approaches to get back into management......(despite applying for Millwall and not making the top 3).....almost as if he's telling them they're lucky to have him. He's delusionally arrogant and its a shame he's never ended up at the fowls, they'd be a perfect match.
They have a very good side for this league do Charlton, they've spent some good money on wages. You'd expect plenty of goals at the very least. He definitely alienated a lot of fans with his media work and arrogance. Comparing himself to the best in Europe was mental. The very reason he's dropped down is because how badly he failed at Stoke & Southampton. Any half decent manager would get this side promoted, *might* be too late this year but 100% should next year. His CV is poor with Stoke & Southampton but at a 'smaller/lower' club, it might work out better for him, he had tonnes of time at Luton and perhaps Charlton sees that and will give him time regardless of how they perform for the rest of this season. Genuinely wouldn't surprise though, if he does do well, that he'll jump ship as soon as an offer comes in
He’s got a very tough start. Teams around them have games in hand. relegation 6 pointer away at Reading first match then Lincoln home which they should win - then it is Pompey, Bolton and Derby in a row. Ouch.
To get the best out of May, you need someone up there doing the spade work for him. Ladapo is probably the complete opposite of what they needed. The longer they persist with those two as a front two, the fewer goals May will score in my opinion. They've been a classic case this season of a side signing all the right players, without any thought given on the best way to deploy them. But like Derby last season, and Ipswich in previous years.
