Why did they fluctuate so much?

Wikipedia says that our home game vs Bristol City in January 94 had 5,222 there, but the next home game vs Stoke had 22,774 in attendance? Then, back down to 6k for a couple of games, then 12k vs Sunderland.

Did we give more away tickets back then?

    Those attendances are wrong unfortunately.

Stoke game was 7, 551. Sunderland was 10, 042 - due to 3 to 4k away supporters probably.

Attendances taken from official BFC history books

The highest day ever for attendances was on Boxing Day cant remember now if it was just before the war or just after.
30 odd thousand at Plymouth 20 odd thousand at Hartlepool for example.I'll try and see if I can find the details.

When did we play Stoke in that FA Cup replay when they brought those blow.up Pink Panthers? There must have been nigh on 20,000 for that one.

Whilst I was probably there, I can't remember, which is why I was asking the question. Been going regularly since 92, but I'm pressed to remember anything of note really before 95.

The Stoke games were in the 4th round, so that means it was in January '89. And then the blue scousers came to Oakwell in the next round. ;)

I went , missed first 3 goals due to too many reds trying to get in ,we were 3 up after 15 minutes I think.
Ended up 3 3 Peter Beagrie maybe got 2 did his back flip ,hence Steve Cooper ex Gymnatst super back flip after his winner at Oakwell, 2 1 if my memory serves me well.
Come on big Al help me out.

I thought it was nearly 23k for the Stoke replay, and over 32k for the Everton game.
And remember they were full strength on the day, with a number of Intl players. But we gave them a game, and only lost 0-1!.
