It's easy for a ref to book a goalkeeper for timewasting at a goal-kick as he can then just tell the keeper to get on with it but if he stops the game for the same reason, horror of horrors he has to award the attacking team a free-kick inside the box and we can't be doing that can we! It's like holding at corners, if referees were strong enough to book a few players for it at the start of the season it would soon stop but most referee's haven't got the bottle I'm afraid!
My biggest bug bear with corners is just before the balls about to be played the ref blows and goes and talks to the players then asks for it to played in. What I’ve never understood is why whatever he’s gone to tell them he just calls it whatever way he sees it when it happens. That’s the only way players will ever change. It’s like being given a warning before speeding etc.
I’d honestly love to see refs turn over possession for deliberate time wasting. Would sort it out straight away.
I think he only booked him because he thought he hadn’t booked him already. It took a few seconds or maybe an Orient player to remind the ref that he’d already booked Connell & off he went. It was a bit different from the last couple of times we were without Connell & Kane wasn’t it?! It got everyone fired up.
He definitely did t realise he has already booked Connell. It took the Orient players to remind him. Wonder if he would still have booked him if he had realised
Was it the first week or so of the 2018 World Cup when umpteen penalties were given for shirt pulling and obstructions at free kicks and corners? It put a stop to it at the time but by the time the domestic season started it had been forgotten about. Which is standard. This seasons fashion was the large amount of added time if teams were time wasting. It lasted about 2 weeks before reverting to type. Utterly pointless.
No he didn’t. He got booked for apparently delaying a goal kick, which was bizarre because Port Vale deliberately timewasted whilst taking a corner shortly after, in an attempt to keep the score down. Had Roberts been pulled up for the six second rule it would have resulted in an indirect free kick in our area. I’m liking the idea of the crowd counting as soon as the keeper picks the ball up though, but we have to bear in mind that we are just as bad when we are winning, and Davies and Collins were two of the worst keepers I’ve seen for timewasting. Or best, depending upon your point of view.
