Whilst looking at website earlier I noticed on there are two Supporter Liaison Officers, this got me a thinking what do they do, so a quick Google of the description suggests whilst a voluntary role they are to provide a link between the Club & Supporters. This then got me wondering given how critical some are about communication from the Club is this link used and if so how? As an example are there any SLO on here? Given how many people ask Gally to communicate with club it suggests not?
It's more a visible presence at games. They assist away fans at home games in the ground Alan and Ray. (Neither are on here to the best of my knowledge). They sometimes keep us updated re away issues. Travel updates etc. Both are available at away games as well. Identifiable with insignia. On coats or sleeves. Alongside 2 matchday stewards from Oakwell. Other clubs especially in south Yorkshire have bought into this. They are seen often talking to barnsley fans and assist the home stewards if necessary. I think both are part of the supporters trust. (Alan definitely is) I think they have enough on their plate to take questions to the board from this particular social group Tbf. The supporters trust which is open to all I believe, That would be their avenue to bring questions forward. Alan is also on the South yorkshire fans group alongside SYP. And is or was Part of the England supporters set up as well. The new advisory group could well be the main comms between all fans and the club. As Agendas and suggestions will be put forward.( And not the free for all the other groups provide) . Which would be more focused on the things put forward in advance. For the club to be able to respond to there and then. Common sense really. My point at the last meeting was that representatives (once elected or volunteered) of different elements be able to be contacted for that particular element. To relieve the pressure on certain individuals. Eg Gally. Both main SLO's put tremendous amounts of effort into their roles imo. And should be applauded. (Their are one or two more I believe.) But they are generally the main go to's. As they are the more recognised Gally may be more aware on that front.
Thank you, I wasn’t trying to criticise the individuals , more trying to understand the role and why it wasn’t utilised more but you’ve explained it well.
I honestly didn't think you were mate. Just trying to give an insight into what I know, not just for yourself. But others not aware. It was a reasonable question you put forward. As I know it, Alan is not on this site. Not 100% sure about Ray. But I don't think so.
