Tbf to Williams, he doesn't get much help from Cotter, however that as to be one of his worst displays at Oakwell yesterday.
Nice guy. Far from my favourite manager and I still cannot fathom the style of play given the style we have publicly stated we recruit to play. At times I would prefer an away ST (if they did one) as I cannot fault most of the away performances. At home however I have been far from impressed. But I acknowledge that we are very difficult fans to play for if we are playing poor, starting slow or conceding early. Always have been. But would I get shut? No. He deserves next season with his own men, his own identity and without the clusterfcuk preseason he walked into this time. We ask for continuity; happy to see it happen.
Was bizarre comments in the Radio Sheffield interview. Answering the question about moving Williams to RWB after another poor game, I found the answer that he is a great leader behind the scenes to be a bit of a politicians answer. Or not an answer at all. JW needs the heat taken off or moved to his natural position. I hope Collins insistence on playing him at CB is not a case of him trying to prove who is in charge or that he won't pick a team on supporters comments. Because I'd hate stubbornness to come into play for stubbornness sake. Oh, and Barry Cotter needs to be in the development squad or at the very most a substitute of last resort. Absolutely dire yesterday.
Yeah, comical performance apart from the long throws. Can't fault his effort but he's obviously not up to the required standard.
Oh, and Barry Cotter needs to be in the development squad or at the very most a substitute of last resort. Absolutely dire yesterday.[/QUOTE] His long throws are real weapon but other than that he brings nothing to the table. I’ve lost count how many times he’s let the ball roll under his foot when it’s been played out wide to him. Basic stuff.
I don't think any manager would go against supporters just to be stubborn mate. I believe some stick with players who they think will come good and fail. Strubher was one of those. Radlinger and Ritzmair. Ultimately replaced by Walton and Styles. We don't see what happens in training or words maybe behind closed doors. But like most I dont see JW being RCB much longer.
But all managers get lucky. Hecky got lucky against Peterborough when George Williams loopy header bobbled past a keeper who basically fell over. He got lucky at Wigan on the last day of that season when their keeper was diabolical and gifted us at least two goals. Alex Ferguson got lucky in the last couple of minutes against Bayern. I'm not a Collins fanatic by any stretch but you can't back handedly dismiss managers because they get some luck now and again.
This is a strange thread for the simple reason that to sack a manager for getting a team promoted would be absolutely crackers. The only type of scenario where that would be logical would be if the said manager asked for 100 million a year in wages....Cant see anything like that with Collins contract somehow.
i created the thread just so we could reflect on the fact that there’s a chance we might get promoted this season despite the general opinion that we’re not playing well and our manager isn’t the best. I just wanted to see what the consensus was should we go up.
He was, but the fact that his actual position was supposed to be RCB not RWB meant that there was a gaping hole for Moncur to run into. But I take your point.
Can't blame cotter, williams didn't help himself. Cost us alot at center back this season. Hopefully when pines is upto speed he goes to rwb as he was probably the best in the league at that position last season.
Is the general opinion we aren’t playing well.? A couple of halves aside like Exeter we have been steadily improving. We played really well at Bolton and pretty welll yesterday against 2 in form sides same against Oxford. I think some people are refusing to recognise the team is improving and with Earl and Pines and possibly Grant can continue to do so
If we are promoted, there will be calls for his head after the second defeat. And if we're getting tonked, during the first, even if we've won the first three games of the season.
For the majority of the second half I was saying why is Phillips still on the pitch, when subs were made I couldn't believe he was still on and Mcatee and Kane off. Then he goes and scores 2 in the last ten mins to win us the game. My point being got to trust Collins with his selections, he sees these players in training and around the club and knows way mare than us know it all pompous gob shi tes.
Although I understand your general point, the example you use in the Johnson/Hecky promotion is a bit off. I can think of many words to describe the teams performance that year but lucky would be a long way off the first words I would use! You thought we were lucky in the last game of the season at Wigan . Not from where I was sat. We were outstanding and the team carried that form through the Play offs and into the following season until the Board intervened to stop any momentum. Imo Collins isn’t the problem at this Club. The main problem is of the pitch and it has been for years. Every Coach has to accept a job here knowing they will have to work with one hand tied behind their back, and if they still succeed after that, the Board will chop their legs off at the knee to bugger things up. This team should be good enough for a top 6 position though I think we remain ridiculously bad as a defensive unit. I’ve never known a season where we are pushing for promotion feel so flat in the crowd. The hope is that the wonderful manner of the win yesterday sparks something, and we can push on to a top two place - and the fans play their part in that, as they did last season.
Probably because Cotter was out of position up the field. I’d rather have a competent back four than an occasionally wobbly back five
