100-YEAR-OLD HAROLD'S SPECIAL DAY! Commercial Ahead of Saturday's clash with Leyton Orient at Oakwell, we surprised our oldest known Season Ticket Holder with a special day at his beloved club! Continue reading on the official site...
Wow fantastic gesture. 100 years old! He's seen some players in his time coming to Oakwell, as well as some great and not-so-great football. He's still coming, though! It's great to see some of these initiatives from the club. I'm not sure the great staff behind the scenes get enough credit for this sort of thing. Not long ago, we saw our oldest-ever mascot, Joan, down at Oakwell (and on national news!), as well as the popular meals in the exec for the older generation of fans that have gone down so well. It was also great to see the kids involved on Saturday, having an unforgettable day at Oakwell and the chance to score a goal at Oakwell as part of the My Home Debut initiative. Very well done all involved! Great examples of the club connecting with the community!
Really heartwarming, that's what football clubs should be about. Read on twitter about a man United ticket holder of 55 years who's had his ST taken because he didn't attend six matches due to his wife being seriously ill. Well done to BFC and sponsors!
This is what our club is all about. I feel privileged to be connected, as a supporter, to Barnsley Football Club. A club firmly rooted in the community. Our community. For all the shi2te and bile that is spouted on here, I forget that the ones who spout it are in the minority. Whilst I may get the usual and tedious responses from them, along with the predictable "there goes another happy clapper" jibes, I live with the knowledge that this club has enriched my life in the way its enriched Harold's...after 100 years. It also makes me think, when I see stuff like this, of my Dad and Grandad (another Harold) taking me down to Oakwell as a 5 year old, lifting me over the turnstile, with a beer crate for me to stand on, at the Kop end against the wall. Well done BFC. Well done Harold!!
Great gesture by the club. Having reached 100 he should get his season ticket for free, unless he already does?
Think it's creative advertising personally. Makes some extra money for the club and does something nice for a fan. Everyone wins! Prefer this to a generic advertising post, personally and presumably makes more money for the club because it'll get far more eyes on it than if it was a basic advert post.
I echo the sentiments above and will add that Robbie Cundy came across really well. He seems genuinely gutted that he's not been able to be part of the last 2 seasons more. The likelihood is, he'll be moved on in the summer now we have both Earl and Shepherd in his position under a longer contract, but I just got the feeling that he's happy here and wishes he'd have been able to have been a part of it more.
Crush Barriers? Sitting?! You were the lucky one!! I'll bet you even got a bovril at half time as well.
