I don't think it was his best game Saturday until the goals. But he one of if not the most effective center midfielder we have if you look at goal and assists over the past 2 seasons. Me and my mate were debating early season who was our best midfield 3 he was saying styles over Phillips I was saying the opposite. He's coming into good form now when we need it hopefully he keeps it up.
I thought it was a toss up with him and Kane,I probably would have gone for Phillips like you say what do we know bugger all in truth.
Phillips, certainly an in form Phillips, should be one of the first names on the team sheet. Just look at his record of goals and assists.
Pleased for him. For much of this season he's been a shadow of the player we saw last season. We knew he had goals in him, although last season most seemed to be long range efforts. Like any player who plays high up the pitch the lack of goals can sap your confidence. Hopefully, those two goals on Saturday will be the springboard he needed and he can be a key player in our promotion challenge.
I dont know how good the lad Grant is. But if we stick with 5 at the back (2 wing backs JW and NC) . 3 in midfield and 2 up Front. Then a midfield could look like Connell, Kane and Grant. Hence why I say Phillips could possibly start alongside Cole. I'd fancy him there, more so than say William's at RWB.
In Grant's two short cameos so far, I can't say I've seen him do much at all. Not in a bad way, just haven't noticed him. Sense of the game passing him by a bit.
Lets be honest. If every player that isn't noticed on here after 2 games. It's in meltdown (bag o' sheite etc) not aimed at you btw as I agree not very noticable. But he's had less than half hr to showcase himself and barely a day after he arrived. Some do take a while. 1-0 down when he came on. Not saying he was big influence. Except that it allowed Phillips to get further forward. For his 1st goal especially.
Honestly think what happened at Wembley had a bigger effect on him than we can ever realise. Glad to see him get his goals on sat.
