You're Duffy from the Early Doors sitcom aren't you? If you've never watched it, do yourself a favour, it's on iPlayer.
Funny you should mention these, a few weeks ago me n Mrs were reminiscing about foods long gone and the subject of fray bentos pies in a tin came up and how they were amazing, tho generally eaten on getting home after a heavy night out, summat quick. Not long after she saw some in a home bargains/ QD place and bought a couple. Jeez.....nostalgia ain't what it used to be. Bleeding disgusting, wouldn't give them the dog, if I had one. The stuff they make z listers eat in the jungle would be preferable. Same can be said for Findus crispy pancakes. Not good. Must retry a vienetta tho.
I totally agree there minging, i used to call em spunky pies cos no matter how long yer cooked em they had soggy bottoms, and slimey stuff.
Don’t waste your money. Cheap, watery “ice cream” that won’t taste anything like you remember. Another old childhood favourite has been ruined too. Twister lollies are now made with pea protein instead of dairy ice cream and they have this slightly odd taste and texture to them now. Strangely, they’re still not vegetarian or vegan despite the switch. As with everything else, the recipes have changed to maintain profit margins and reduce the amount of calories per serving.
Remember Steak Canadians? 1mm thin slices of something resembling cheap kebab meat that you fried for about 4 seconds per side. Used to fry about 6 of them with a fried egg for a post-night out snack.
I was coming back through Wakefield once... absolutely starving, just passing The Graziers on Denmark St I saw a sarnie shop advertising Steak Canadienne (never heard of it at the time) on a bread cake for about 80p..what a bargain!!... picked one up with can of pop and bag of crisps and drove up to Heath Common to enjoy my snap. I assumed it would be a nice thick north American style lump of steak, when I got the bread cake out and looked at my bargain food the 'steak' was a single sliver, thinner than a skin graft, you could hold it up to the light and see through it.
I like them. The tins are great for Yorkshire puddings afterwards. Side note. My brother was in the navy during the Falkland conflict, my mother refused to buy fray Bentos corn beef. She thought it was Argentinian!
no way steve, worst ever, best pies are Hollands or on delivery Bowens Pies from Chorley, pukka is ok but gone downhill in last few years as proven at oakwell
Could I urgently request any BBS member who's ejaculate resembles the inner filling of a Fray Bentos pie to immediatley seek treatment from a specialist clinic..failing this contact.... S Dawson@hamsterporn.co
