....since we drew 1-1 with Man Utd at Old Trafford in the FA Cup. Could have won too if ref Mike Riley hadn't bottled a stonewall pen for Gary Neville's challenge on Andy Liddell. We put that right in the replay though......
Was blatant from the away end - he was cut down waist high!! Would have been a great victory but we wouldn't have got that incredible game at Oakwell
I was behind that goal where Peter Schmeical sliced his clearance and gave John Hendrie an easy goal. I thought ok, we got one, but we will still lose. How wrong I was! I was just as sickened as everyone else when the idiot Riley didn't give us the penalty but thrilled to be at Oakwell for a pulsating replay. Probably the best game I've ever seen us play and we even stopped Little Boy Beckham from scoring
I was there. My Dad went to get his cup of coffee from under the seat and missed the goal. Remember the goal and the penalty that never was, but not much else.
Sadly didn't go to either game but watched the replay in a pub full of Man U fans (as you'd expect in South Derbyshire). Felt 10 foot tall at the final whistle. Scott Jones, legend.
Most of the London branch didn’t bother going up to that one, after the disappointment of the league fixture. I was mates with the landlord of my local in Hampstead, so he put in on the big TV in the downstairs room for us. We were enjoying it up to the foul on Liddell. I don’t believe that refs are intentionally biased, but some of them don’t have bottle it. That one couldn’t have been any clearer, and the ref had a clear view of it, just like 10 years later at Anfield. As others have said though, it gave us that great night at Oakwell, which we did come up for, and I don’t think Scott Jones will be complaining about the ref’s decision!
He must have took his time gerrin his coffee lol!.....because it seemed like ages watching Super John chase after ball before slotting it home following Schmeichels bollock mate
That goal was the weirdest sensation I’ve had watching football before or since. When Schmeichel miskicked and the ball fell into Hendrie’s path everything seemed to go into slow motion as 10000 people tried to suck the ball into the net. Went to normal speed with all the bedlam after it went in. Maybe that was just me though haha…..
Sky caught me with my head in my hands at the end of the replay - was onscreen a good 5-10 seconds. Used the footage in an advert for tension at the end of the season - never got a penny
I went to both! I was convinced that was our chance gone, small club screwed over again! But Scott Jones, what a game to remember! It was!
