Since December 16 he's had either a goal or an assist in 9 of 13 games played. Tremendous run of form.
He proved last season what a good player he is. He was off colour at the start of this and in and out of the team. You have to give good players the chance to play themselves back into form instead of leaving them out or constantly picking them then dropping them.
Does that apply to Cosgrove? Who decides if they're "good" in the first place? Seems to me that you must always pick players to play on the basis that they're playing well. If they're not then they need benching. This does not apply to players coming back from injury etc. But if you're out of form you should be out of the team.
No idea about Cosgrove. I was always of the opinion that Phillips would regain form and his contribution is so vital that it was worth allowing him the game time to get his eye back in.
Well he does have his eye back in, so there is merit in that point of view, but firstly I'm not sure where his eye went, and secondly there's only so much time you can allow before someone else deserves their turn. I can't go along with the idea of a player getting an automatic first team place even though he's clearly out of form.
Maybe if we weren't trying to bed in so many others early in the season we could have been a bit more patient. There's certainly no doubt he's vital for the run in.
Returning to form just at the right time. I’m sure he’d be the first to admit he got off to a slow start. Brilliant to see his graft paying off
Maybe he was affected by the Wembley experience. He's one of those players who can make the difference but often disappears. Not one for the trenches, or digging you out of a hole. But if he's doing well it usually means that the team is too.
He's a great player and his recent good form coincides with the team playing much more on the front foot.which suits our players perfectly.
But he was getting kept put of the team by callum styles early season who was mostly ineffective. Phillips alway has game changing moments in him he can strike a ball and has the ability to cross a ball and gets plenty of assists.
Someone around us was saying how **** he was early in the second half & that Collins should ‘get him off’. You’ve got to laugh
