He gives us another option to McAtee & Cole up front, which is always a good thing. I'm happy to let Collins make that decision, though, as he knows far better than me.
That's fair enough though, innit? There were several occasions yesterday where he wasn't even looking at the ball. He looks at the player first, then clatters into him before even touching the ball. Not even trying to disguise it. That might work 20 years ago, but not any more. His touch at times was really really poor, but again I guess you could blame the surface. As it stands, he's got more cards than goals and assists. He needs to get a lot cleverer about using his size, for me. Like everyone else, I desperately want him to come good.
I'd love to see him knock a few on for the likes of Cole, or McAtee, but I've yet to see anything of the sort. Starting with anything other than Cole & McAtee up front seems madness to me.
As I said, Collins knows far better than me and we won yesterday to prove it, not that proof is needed!
I think Fleetwood was a good game to give Cosgrove a run out. He bagged a goal, which was great & proved Collins right. He gave Marshy a few minutes too, who I think ranks up there, if Jalo is injured.
That also applied to the late Steve Cooper. It seemed referees couldn't believe he could jump so much higher than defenders without fouling them.
Steve wasn't a prolific scorer, but he set up so much for other players. If Cosgrove could start to do that, he'd be a definite starter. We have so many midfielders who can bag goals, plus Cole, who is not dissimilar to Curry in his playing style.
When I saw he'd scored, I thought yeah gerrin' there lad, let's have another one or two ehh lol. Fingers crossed for the last-third of the season.
I particularly liked his cross field ball with the left peg after he'd been strong in a challenge. He literally scuffed it about 8 yards straight to their player in midfield.
